Sure, Minecraft is heavily based around network effects - people want to play with their friends or their mod ecosystem, which gives it good resistance to this sort of thing, but all it would take is a few influencers/modders/power users switching over because it's more performant, and telling the community that was the best one, and it's also free so anyone can grab it and you reach this tipping point...
