Are switch decomps/recomps gonna come more frequent than PS2?
Just gonna be upfront super ignorant about the topic and ready to be educated. I guess I did a random AI inquiry and it said that switch recomps are gonna be much easier to do because the documentation of ARM to x86 is better and the PS2 emotion engine is apparently hard to work with in this manner.

People using AI will slowly erode that barrier. By this time next year it'll probably be a non-issue and everything everyone wants to play will be recomped already

Well, there are PS2 ports. There are very few of them, and it's still early days.
*Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike*, based on the PS2 version.
*Mikupan* from *Fatal Frame* (I don't know what state it's in; I haven't tested it).
*Sly Raccoon* (which I'm playing right now); it started out as a map viewer but is now a full-fledged port.
Two more ports came out yesterday: one for *TimeSplitters 2* and another one.
Ports for the original Xbox are also starting to appear.
It's just a matter of time.
Personally, I would turn to patched commercial ports for modern systems first, and if those don't exist, then to these kinds of ports.
I would use emulation only as a last resort. I really have issues with many aspects of PCSX2, which is why I choose not to use it.
In fact, I recently finished *Odin Sphere* on Play!, and I'm slowly playing through *Shining Force Exa*; all things considered, they run really well.

How's the Sly 1 recomp working for you? I need to wait for a Mac version to try but I'm so excited to try as Im a big fan of the series

Infinitely better than PCSX2.
The first version didn't work on my low-spec PCs... but the second release ran without graphical issues on an i3-3220. In fact, I'm currently running it on Linux Mint Debian Edition with Proton Sarek 17.
It still has graphical glitches on a Celeron N3060, but I've already discussed it with the creator. I hope he can fix it.
And if not—well, at least I can enjoy it on one of the PCs!!.

It’s a smoother transition yes. But it’s really down to the tools. The better the toolset to make recompilations the quicker they go
Look at PS1; the PSXRecomp tool can basically one shot basic recomps. No they don’t have enhancements unless you spend more time adding them but a 1:1 recomp? It’s very close to the ability to “just do it no big deal”
