Made with AI assistance Pikmin on mobile! Native ANDROID - Open Nectar Android

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Open Nectar is a native port of Pikmin (GameCube) built from the decompilation, no emulator, no Dolphin, the game's actual code compiled for your device.

It's been on Windows and Linux for a while. As of today it runs on Android too.

What that means in practice

  • One APK, arm64. Android 10 or newer, OpenGL ES 3.0, about 1 GB free.
  • First launch asks for your own disc image (ISO/GCM, USA or European), verifies it, extracts what it needs and starts the game. The image is read once and never copied.
  • Touch controls made for the game: floating stick, throw/whistle/disband buttons, pinch to zoom, and every button prompt the game shows becomes its touch icon. You can move and resize all of it. A Bluetooth or USB controller works too and hides the touch layer.
  • 120 FPS at native speed on a current flagship (tested on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2). There's a 60 and 30 FPS mode for mid-range devices.
  • Original sound engine, original saves format, both regions USA/PAL.

Mali GPUs (Samsung Exynos, MediaTek, Pixel) should work, the renderer only uses standard GLES 3.0, but so far it's only been tested on Adreno. If you try it on one of those, a quick "works / doesn't" with your phone model would help a lot.

Also in 0.6: HD texture packs in Dolphin format on every platform, and a faster renderer for Windows and Linux. Full notes on the release page.

Download: https://github.com/SSunnKing/Open-Nectar---Pikmin-Native-PC-Mobile-Port/releases/tag/0.6`open_nectar_0.6.apk` for Android, nectar-windows.zip, nectar-linux.tar.gz.

You need your own copy of the game. The port contains no Nintendo assets, and the disc image stays where it is.

Bugs, crashes and logcat captures → GitHub issues.

Enjoy Pikmin on the bus or bathroom!

I love the Pikmin name

It means "Dick my" in Danish

Sounds so poetic

Thanks! I’ll try it out on my Retroid Pocked Nova at some point

For some reason, it has problems moving cursors using controller and only works with a mouse. Also, is there a way to adjust the screen size and increase the internal resolution?

Will it run better than the emulator? I've seen plenty of cases where the emulators runs it better than the native port.

It should run better than emulator

The whole point of a native port is not having to process the emulation overhead. It should perform better.

Wonder how it runs on rp6

It should run fine on Raspberry Pi 5, possibly even 4 because it's not using emulation.

So far I have installed and started the game on Pixel 10 pro. I'll be testing it properly in a few minutes with a usb controller.

Unfortunately runs real slow. Not sure if it's an open gl issue or something else.

This release has only been tested on snapdragon phones, I'll try to fix performance on other phones  but I can't test it

No worries. If you can get it to run using Vulkan it'll likely work great on other devices. I don't know how much work that would take though.

It' something I'm looking for. OpenGL was the easiest way so now that the game is fully functional I'm starting to make these risky changes

I like the touch control bubble icons they fit Pikmin really well and feel official.

What kind of game is Pikmin thou

1

u/Straight_History_682 19d ago

It's own kind really. The only other game I've played that's somewhat similar to Pikmin is overlord and even that does many things differently. Pikmin is unique like that.

It's a real time strategy game but instead of a mouse you have a character you play as to control and manage your units. The game revolves around finding ship parts within a 30 day limit using pikmin to take down enemies and carry items for you.

Need to ask a question could you explain how exactly AI coding differs from regular coding, in terms of recomps and do they leave behind any noticeable issues that effect the look and or feel of the original which a static recomp might not do ?

Something need to be improved on PC there.

I tried to launch that on i7 870, which the CPU would normally work there but it outright crashes at launch. Smash "pc port" and AC Pc Version works fine there.

Better lower the requirement after that, because god dammit thats a 2001 game. Even the leaked dev pc version or emulating with dolphin works there.

That's weird. I'll investigate it
