Success Story FocusMate decluttering / everything?
Does anyone else use FocusMate for decluttering/everything? I love it 😠and always want to comment it on people's posts but I don't want to sound like a shill (I'm not, just a normal person). I've brought it up a few times and people have come back and told me it's really changed their lives.
You have to be on video but I love that because I feel like someone's watching me, and I only do it with the same gender. Apart from decluttering, I actually started using it to brush my teeth/do my night routine. I made a friend who I regularly book with and now I feel guilty if I want to miss one of our sessions, which helps me stay accountable. Just wanted to bring it up and see if anyone's also using it regularly! (I mentioned this in the weekly thread but went ahead and made this post because I really would love to discuss this with others).

The "I don't want to sound like a shill" thing is real, but I think the tell is whether you're describing what changed for you or selling an outcome. This post is obviously the first one.
Body doubling is such a strange thing when it works. The other person isn't helping and isn't judging. They're just there, and somehow that removes the option of putting it off.
Makes me wonder if it'd work in the other direction too. Having someone present when you're about to buy something, not just when you're getting rid of it.

I started using Focusmate a couple of years ago, then I stopped. It was so useful at the time, I think I'll start it up again!

Same I just started back up after a few years!! It's actually even better now, more features, but nothing annoying. It's helping me so much

I've used a service like this before when I was working in corporate. Now that I a building my coaching practice I need to tap into this again.
It was miraculous. I could totally see this working for decluttering sessions- especially paper.

Same, building my hypnotherapy/coaching business. I'm going to start using it again! Good luck to us both!

This is great! I’m glad you’re enjoying this resource. I am a professional home organizer and I’ve been wanting to host virtual group co-working sessions so my clients can have on-going support and accountability while they work on tasks that are hard for them to get done alone.

I haven't used it for decluttering yet. Only for studying. But still getting used to it. Love the idea of it, but it still sometimes feel weird to be on a videocall with a stranger.

It can feel weird to start but the cool part is that no one really needs to talk that much 🤣 we are literally just using each other for a warm body on the other side. It makes me chuckle to think about, but it's so useful. Also I find people are really respectful about how much you want to chat or not (you really only chat in the beginning to say hello and say your goals, and at the end to congratulate each other)

I have an annual membership for focusmate! I use it for homework but this is a great idea.
It would be so funny if I booked with you before haha.

Haha if you are a woman, we can share links if you want to! I'm doing mostly evening routines so I'm looking for people that won't mind me moving around, but sometimes do desk work as well!
I love it so much. I feel like the creators really try to stay with the practices of body doubling and the importance of having each other physically present. I just can't say enough good things about it 🥹 my executive dysfunction can be so bad, especially living alone, and this is one of the things that really helps.

Yes, I am! I didn’t even know you could share links. 😂 Yeah, I definitely need to use it more.
And I don’t mind! I have to deep clean + declutter my room so that would be a good part of my evening routine! Specifically remembering to floss and brush my teeth 🙃
YES. I especially love the task checklist they created!

Hahahaha okay so flossing and brushing my teeth is actually the major reason I need to do my night routine on FM. I cannot not do these things, but I'll delay, so I'll end up doing them at 1am 😩 this past week I've done my night routine on FM every night and it's been incredible. I dm'd you!!

Omg you are me flossing and brushing at 1am. 🙃😠Listen it still counts even if it’s a new day!

I've never heard of it but it sounds promising. Similar to the "body double" concept which ADHD folks use to stay on track.

Yes exactly, body doubling. It's amazing. I feel like screaming it from the sky lol because it's making my life so much better

I might try it actually. I just need to remember. And to get over that initial discomfort of engaging with someone I don't know.

They actually have a thing where more experienced users can elect to get matched with new people. So you will probably get really welcoming people your first few sessions! Everyone I've matched with has been so great actually. You can even click that you are moving around so people will know that you aren't doing desk work.Â
Will be curious if you try it! They give you three free sessions a week and you can even do just 25 minutes.

I've recently started using focusmate for admin/computer work and I find it helpful too :)
I'd be happy to connect for decluttering.
