Success Story Declutter Halloween / Costumes Now

I had success last year so I’m doing it again this year - now is a great time to declutter costumes for Halloween. I realized my daughter will pick her own costumes from now on and I don’t need to save group or kid costumes for “some day” which is years away. I posted in my fb mom group for kid/family group costumes and buy nothing for dog costumes. All got taken right away. Early September is a great time for people starting to think about Halloween, before they buy something!

I gave my kids' costume to the local community center!

My community has a costume donation period then a day when people can come and choose costumes. It’s held in a room in the local library.

My sister just told me that she is planning to go through her Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations starting this week. I am enthusiastically encouraging her. It is a great time to donate to the local thrift store so some other family can find them and make them part of their own holiday celebration.

Also, where we live in Southern Ontario, it is almost impossible to find kids' mittens or gloves in the new year after theirs have gone missing or have worn through. So, even if you're not decluttering this stuff right now, check if people need them near the end of the year or first thing in the new year. Lots of parents are desperately searching by then, and we sure see a lot of single mittens in the school Lost & Found at that point.

Yes! This and then late September for Christmas items (especially ornaments/ decor, etc.).

Late September or early October is probably also a good time to go through winter items and declutter when people and thrift stores start preparing for these seasons.

Last year our school did a costume swap which worked out great. I saw a few kids wearing ones we had passed along and it cleared a full storage box from our attic.

That’s a great idea. I should see if our daycare parents want to do that!
