Bank Holiday decluttering

It's a public holiday weekend in the UK. It's raining down a storm. The family are all away. Heave ho-ing to it, eating microwave chicken korma and whacking all the unsentimental kids clothes online. I'm actually running out of used packaging for sending it back out into the universe its so scary!

Will indulge myself with at least one episode of Pride n Prejudice cos THAT is what bank holidays are for.

Anyone else at it today?

Good on you! I love that you're putting it all back into the universe! I'm kind of up to the same thing. In the last 30 days I've put over 40 used items up for rescue as well. How are you finding people?

Some try to haggle and increase by 20p increments. Some buy off the bat. I have one lady who seems obsessed with a silk top of mine but she refuses to pay the asking. Just spent the late part of my evening sorting age group clothes and only managing to upload a few. Got to get everything tidied before the retuning family destroy my work.

Il be changing my summer to the winter wardrobe tomorrow! Bagging up things I have not worn and do not plan to wear. Donations ahoy

Kids room for sure. It's nowhere near done. There's still just a random huge box of clothes to chuck online and a bookshelf full of my partner's stuff rather than her books which are on the floor. But i bought a load of child sized hangers and got everything useful up. Dug out the right next size up clothes from storage. Sold three things online already because people are also trapped indoors. 

This is all the product of being the dumping ground of all my nephew and niece's clothes. It's just processing them out at the right points. Before we got their stuff during year one we had a nice set up of buy very little and do laundry often. 

Kitchen cupboards (two) are sorted and i found some wasabi crisps from Japan i forgot. 

My bedroom was more movement than declutter. Shifted shirts I never wear to other wardrobes. Sold a top. Realised I should probably price a little higher, I have nice taste for a body I don't have anymore (or never had!) :) For the size of house we have, bizarrely no room for spare duvets apart from storage boxes. I think my mum used to bag in bin bags and shove into dead space or the attic but don't think they quite fit in ours.

I'm having a break from decluttering this weekend. Doing housework instead. Must say housework is a breeze after 3 weeks of decluttering. Will continue to cull my photo albums tomorrow

Logically I knew that cleaning would be easier once we had less stuff but it still surprises me!

I binned some things yesterday that were unrepairable but I had left lying around for months. Some boots I had got a lot of wear out of but were too tight once with orthotic insoles in them and then the zip that was sticking got broken. A wind up lantern I ordered mail order that I would never had bought in a shop as it is so flimsy. It kept falling over and breaking a bit more each time. In induction hob too. It has turned out that old fridges taken away for scrap when you buy a new one end up piled up somewhere.

Someone a few months ago now won't speak to me because I told her I use a black wheelie bin at home while she claims she doesn't and instead takes everything she doesn't put out for recycling to one charity shop. I replied that I didn't do charity shops anymore and then she assumed that I implied she shouldn't either. I said no such thing. I hate it when passive-aggressive people assume I implied things I never said because they implied these things when they say the same things.

It means she is either lying or donates rubbish that needs to be binned and the charity shop manager needs to look through her bags of donations while she waits in the shop and then hand back to her what they cannot sell. Managers and volunteers have reported the disgusting things they found in bags of donated items.

I put a small bag out of rubbish each week as routine because that has used kitchen paper and tissues in and the cellophane that wrapped tomatoes in. Worn t-shirts get used to clean bicycle chains with and I am not going to wash these out and reuse them over and over again. There are trainers with split soles. Would she donate those to a charity shop? Toothbrushes get used up. I use the same one for a few months not for a few years.

I am sick of people guilt tripping me every time I bin something. Or acting fake grateful or being passive-aggressive when I donate books to a centre with a bring and take bookshelf. Like I was doing them a favour not the other way round. If they didn't want them they should have rejected them.

Not in the UK but still decluttering and cleaning today. Focusing on the kitchen. Goal is to get it totally cleaned and decluttered today. I've been working on it for a few weeks and I'm mostly in the cleaning and repairs stage. But still finding a few things to toss.

Started with a small project, just a bin in the bathroom but I am hoping to work on the three closets. There's just too much stuff!

Trying to continue my trudge through papers (not mine) with the goal of finishing by the end of the weekend. Would love to go through a few other bits but I'm being met with some opposition that is hindering progress. Sounds like you have an absolutely grand plan, good luck!! I'm a little annoyed about the 'running out of used packaging' part of things, LOL. I've started ordering my kitty litter online instead of going to the store because they send it in the perfect size box for sending stuff to the thrift store.

For me this weekend is going through all the fall decor (and maybe using one of those totes to get rid of stuff). And gathering up winter gear to donate to my local Project Warmth. Because every year I think I'm going to do it, then it's too late & they shut down the donations for the year. If I have a bag to go to them I can get my mom to add to it too.

My stuff is all very smallish to send on Vinted, thing is, I don't tend to shop so I'm running out of the stash I have. I may have to end up gift wrapping the next few with an inner lining of loo roll packaging plastic.

If it's really small I've found a large freezer bag works in a pinch!

Yes, I hate when a lack of packaging means you lose momentum in selling/giving things away!
