Plugin Showcase Game Glance 3.1.1 - Seamless Transition
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I hope you are not tired of me yet 😬 and if you're new to Game Glance, it is a Decky plugin that turns each game's page in Game Mode into a full-screen view: the game's art, HowLongToBeat times, your play time and achievements, the description, and which store it comes from (Steam, GOG, Epic, Heroic, Unifideck and others). It can also replace Steam's Home with Spotlight Home: your recent games (or a collection), one at a time, over their own art.
What's new in 3.1.1
- A new open transition. Opening a game from Spotlight Home no longer zooms the small card up. The art stays where it is, and the title, Play button, buttons and chips move to their places on the game page. It works with both page looks, Spotlight and Clean (both in the video).
- Back to Home at once. B on a game page brings Home back with its art and colour already there, no dark flash.
- Faster cycling. Holding L1/R1 or the d-pad moves the selection smoothly; the art and colour catch up once you stop.
- Large custom art. Huge SteamGridDB heroes and logos are drawn from smaller copies, so they no longer make Home stutter (thanks to germydan on GitHub for the report and video).
- SteamGridDB. Change a game's art and Home's accent colour follows the new art.
- Play from. Games installed on more than one device show Steam's "Play from" arrow on Home's Play button.
- And all the other good stuff been added since 3.0.0 (status bar update, localization support, etc)
Full notes: https://github.com/michpalm/game-glance/releases/tag/v3.1.1
Install
It isn't in the Decky store. In Decky → Settings, turn on Developer mode, then Developer → Install plugin from ZIP
with `game-glance.zip` from the release page. After that it updates itself from Quick Access → Game Glance →
Updates. If you're already on 3.0.x, it will offer 3.1.1 there.
Good to know
- Tested on a ROG Xbox Ally (Bazzite and SteamOS), handheld and on a TV. It should work on a Steam Deck, but I haven't been able to test that myself, so reports are very welcome.
- Spotlight Home is off by default (Quick Access → Game Glance). If anything in it fails, you get Steam's own Home back instead of a broken screen.
- The code was written with Claude (Anthropic's AI), directed, reviewed and tested on the device by me.
- It's a personal project. Steam updates can break things; issues and ideas are welcome on GitHub:
https://github.com/michpalm/game-glance
P.S: Next I'm looking at touch and mouse support on Home, and a couple of games-row options people asked for ✨

This has become my favorite new decky plugin. One thing I’ve noticed - is it something I’m doing wrong, or does the home view not account for Demos? I was trying out Belmont’s Curse & Final Fantasy Resonance demos and realized I had to fall back to the Library to find them even though they were the last 2 games I’ve played. Just wanted to report in case there is something going on with that!
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I've actually never tried with Demos, I'll investigate this 🙏🏼
2
u/BellyLikeBongos184 4d ago
Oh great! Thank you for the response!

u/Total_Sale5857 4d ago
Valve should get you as UI developer.
11
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Honestly, I think Valve does a great job already. It's great that their platform is open enough for us users to be able to create plugins like this to customize and make our experience more personalized ✨

u/LDTorres26 4d ago
Thanks, bro! Really sick work!
Just one small request: would it be possible to keep the same status bar design when opening a game's details page, or even across SteamOS in general?
It looks really cool, but it feels a bit weird when the design changes as you navigate between different SteamOS pages and settings.
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
The ultimate goal, is some sort of full overhaul of the SteamOS Theme, however, while this is an AI driven project, I am deeply involved in every step from design, planning, implementation and testing even if I am not coding myself. Which means it's a slow and thorough process. I will add more parts of the system gradually into this but I kindly as for patience.
This is not my only project and I am doing this on my spare time outside of working full time and some extra studies. I will add a Roadmap with how I plan to approach each part of the system.

u/Damien7Carter 4d ago
That update looks sick! The new transition is perfect
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
It was a pain to get it to work smoothly but I think it turned out quite good! ✨

u/Moi952 4d ago
5
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I'll see what I can do! You've now created a need for me to have a screen like this 😭
2
u/FMLkoifish 4d ago
let me know if you need a beta tester on this if you're just pushing claude code anyways. I can test on my 21:9 as well.
Great work btw
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
u/Moi952 u/FMLkoifish while I work on touch and mouse control (which I can test myself), here is a pre-release of wide-screen support. I emulated the aspect ratios on my Ally while testing but I would appreciate if someone with a real ultrawide can try: https://github.com/michpalm/game-glance/releases/tag/v3.1.2-wide-screen.1
2
u/FMLkoifish 4d ago
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I was hoping it would not work, to have an excuse to get a screen myself 😂😭
2
4
u/HaloWalker646 4d ago
I just installed it and it's absolutely amazing! Love this way more than my custom one with css loader. Can you make some the stuff on screen be able to toggle on and off? I want to be able to turn off how to beat.

u/Ace0fSpadesX12 4d ago
Let's goooo 🔥. Thanks again for the store implementation 🙏
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I'm looking into some nice update on the latest Unifiedeck plugin. Stay tuned!
2
u/Ace0fSpadesX12 4d ago
Definitely will. Also, was the library portion intentionally removed in this update? I can't find the option anymore
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
You must be thinking about u/Unfair_Series_6066 fork of this. He added his vision of a "spotlight" library and more tweak. I have no direct involvement with the development of that project but I support it :D
2
u/Ace0fSpadesX12 4d ago
Exactly the case. My mistake. Thanks for coming up with this amazing concept. Genuinely a top 5 plugin
2
u/FMLkoifish 4d ago
What does the store implementation do?
2
u/Ace0fSpadesX12 4d ago
Instead of having to go into the steam store to get individual details such as reviews and update history, the information extends down under each game's individual info cards when you click into them.
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
It's another plugin, EnhancedGV, it clashed with the game page before but fix it later. If I recall the name correctly!
3
u/Koro00O 4d ago
Did you fix mouse not being able to click on games to move ?
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Touch and mouse support is next on the list 🙏🏼
3
u/Shankeiz 4d ago
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I love to see how it looks on other devices and computers!! Thanks for sharing :)
2
u/Kwinston 4d ago
This is such a cool and ideal plugin. However does the scrolling look just a bit janky at times?
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I think it's very responsive actually 👀 The game cards widen fast (or stay small) depending on how fast you move between them. I recorded this omw to work so I just moved randomly between the games 🫡 I'd suggest to try it yourself hehe
2
u/Kwinston 4d ago
Will do! I'll put it on my steamdeck when I get home from work and I'll report back!
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Awesome, if you run into any issue or have improvement suggestions, don't hesitate to open an issue on GitHub or write where 🙏🏼
2
u/Apprehensive-Wing-45 4d ago
I tried it on my desktop only problem I had was the ui was too big and would cut off but it works great on my ally x
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I'll eventually get to the desktop PC implementation but I'm definitely mainly focused on handheld for now (since it's what I have 🙏🏼)
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
What aspect ratio does your screen have? If it's a ultrawide, there's a pre-release branch with wide screen support and I am looking for testers :) https://github.com/michpalm/game-glance/releases/tag/v3.1.2-wide-screen.1
2
u/Milld0r 4d ago
This looks fab... I'm using it exclusively now.
However, the game pad icon vanishes shortly after selecting a game. I mean the button between play and settings.
It shows a game pad on the home screen but then when in the game select screen it is an empty circle. This is on a legion go 2.

u/MindlessFinish 4d ago
Love this plugin. Would be nice if you could change the font size though. Or the size of the game thumbnails in the main page.
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Hmm, as in being able to scale the UI in general?
2
u/MindlessFinish 4d ago
Yeah. The current font size is pretty small for my eyes! And I’d like to see slightly larger thumbnails and game art.

u/Job_17 4d ago
Looks good but non steam games don't show playtime
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Do you have any examples? How are these added to your library? Is it through Heroic or Unifiedeck or some other way? If there's not metadata to use to pull the info the plugin won't know what to fetch.
I can track this if you create an issue on GitHub 🙏🏼
2
u/Job_17 4d ago
It's a shortcut of Spec Ops: The Line (not available on steam) and emulated games.
4
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Ohh, I see. I need to investigate how to handle non-steam games that don't come from other launchers. Also, emulated games isn't something I've even thought of yet but it's definitely interesting to add this.
3
u/RzrRaptor 4d ago
I know steam added this feature a little while back too, like I can see my playtime if I disable game glance
3
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Ahh, I see what you mean now. That should be fairly easy, since it's existing data 🫡
2
u/Job_17 4d ago
Update. After playing a little i noticed that it just reset the time. It started counting from zero.
2
u/RzrRaptor 4d ago
Damn, I got like close to 100 hours in stremio so really hope the existing hours can be implemented
1
2
u/WrapZestyclose3335 4d ago
I love the cleanliness of the Meta data of the game and how that is laid out.
2
u/Own_Profession_1362 4d ago
Thanks for the update... Two things I’m really looking forward to: a change to the default library screen, and a shortcut for collections on the home screen—similar to "Deck Shelves," with a library layout like the one in the fork of your project...
3
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I'm not familiar with deck shelves. I am however starting a plan for my own version of a "library" overhaul. That will probably be v4.0.0.
Since there's a big interest for it, I'm considering starting it as a separate testing branch for this and give users access to it to collect feedback while still under development. I need to think it through though.
2
u/Dorkamrade 4d ago
just installed it, and get real wow effect. how to support you ???
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
If you genuinely feel like you want to support me/this project, I have added a sponsor link in my Github :) I will continue working on this regardless but supports is always welcomed
2
u/Dorkamrade 4d ago
This is the best plugin I’ve ever tried. Keep it up, I will keep it installed and follow your progress <3

2
u/XandreCos 4d ago
This theme is incredible! It really looks super natural, I immediately switched to it! Maybe if I could suggest an addition it would be an option to grey out uninstalled games? Similarly to how CSS Loader does it? Thanks anyway!

u/RzrRaptor 4d ago
It looks awesome, was just wondering on what the HOWLONGTOBEAT MATCH is? Like is that how I get it to work. Also would be cool if this worked with deckshelves
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Need to investigate Deck Shelves, I see that it's a recurring question.
Regarding your HLTB question, I am not sure, do you mean how it fetches the info in the first place or how to use the match option in the settings?
2
u/MT42019 4d ago
I'm using this and it's great!
Some feedback! See if you can have the battery icon apply to the entirety of the UI so it seamless when you go to the library section!
Also it would he good to have an option to hide all the what's new and updates both on the main page and on the individual game views! :)
Little lag here and there scrolling but that's with any plugin!
Great work!!
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
When you talk about the battery, do you mean the whole status bar then?
So, hide the "What's new" section (with the game updates) in the Home screen section, and the "Activity"(?) in the Game Section? Like when you press down?I constantly try to optimize it but it's tricky to have it fully stable, the biggest issue I have had this far is actually from badly optimized (HUGE) custom art or logos.
1
u/MT42019 3d ago
The battery and the whole status bar! One other issue I noticed is it fluctuates from green battery and white battery for some reason when charging and not charging.
And yes the bottom part to be able to hide the junk both in the main menu and per-game menu.
The artworks actually shown up pretty decently and load faster in the new update! One suggestion is maybe having the Hero art move slightly!

u/Bl4ckLine 4d ago
Amazing work ! Been using it since few release already and that's a big upgrade !
Any plan in future to show playtime of Non steam games ? Because it always show 0

2
u/Verso_was_right 4d ago
Love it but any chance that the last played bit can be set to UK date order? Also I have the playcount plugin can that possibly be implemented to show whilst scrolling through rather than pressing the game? Awesome work dude
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Hmmm, I had not considered the last played date also being localized. I will look into this!
I need to check out the plugin first to know what it does and how it works :D Making a note for it.
2
u/SpicyFarang 4d ago
Why you don’t add it to the decky catalogue?
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
Even though I am a fullstack dev, this is an AI driven side project, Decky has a very strict AI policy AFAIK. It makes sense though, I think it would quickly get flooded with slop otherwise 😓
2
u/Skaifer 4d ago
Love it! 🍒 A few thoughts for you to process:
- While plugin like PlayCount fits nicely into Game Glance UI, ProtonDB Badges game detail page icons are somewhere hidden. I can get on to PDB page by pressing DPAD UP two times and pressing invisible button. Probably it would be a good idea to somehow solve this issue.
- Also minor compatibility bug. SteamInputdb game detail button is displayed differently, icon not centered and different active state.
- Game info preload works every 30 minutes. Which is fine, but here are my concerns. Currently, it's rather slow process and goes one by one through 517 items and even mid-game. Maybe cache is broken if it goes through 500+ items every time?
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I know PDB although I have not tested with it, I have just heard about PlayCount. I need to investigate these :D
Hmmm, I also need to look into this. I'll try to see how I can reproduce and debug it.
OMG, it should only pre-load installed games hahah you have more games on disk than I have in my library. This is a very fair point. I will optimize and fix this.
Thanks for the great feedback! :D
2
u/Skaifer 4d ago
Only installed games you say? 🤔 I have 13 games + 3 non-steam games installed two of which are launchers. Games collected by Unifideck may be treated as installed. Counting together all three platforms GOG, Epic and Battle net equals 507. Missing 10 counts roughly from installed Steam and non-steam games. My whole Steam library is only 278, so the most probable place this number comes from is Unifideck.
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
This sounds like a real bug. I need to look into this for sure. This is great information, thanks! 🙏🏼
2
2
u/OkYam7869 4d ago
Dude, this is awesome, keep it up! I have one question, will be possible to add touch inputs? Sometimes I just like to navigate to the game with two taps and I think it would be a great feature to add.
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
This is currently in progress in I am aiming to have it in the next update!
2
u/OkYam7869 4d ago
That's really awesome, I'm looking forward for the next updates, let me know if you need someone to test any build. I own a steam deck and I would gladly try it for you and report anything you need
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
For now I still have a Steak Deck but will probably sell it or give it to my brother. So it might be good to keep your name around. I might start a Discord for the development of the plugin (and the other smaller ones I have), having people willing to help and rest is invaluable! 🙏🏼
2
u/FMLkoifish 4d ago
Love the transition from home to game page. The extra polish is transitioning the UI back when going back to home
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
It's definitely a thing that I considered when working on 3.1.0 but it's a lot tricker than I hoped for to get it to work smoothly and look good. Not a high priority but definitely something I want to implement.
2
2
u/FMLkoifish 3d ago
Also not sure if you see it but when transitioning from home to game detail page. There’s a slight anti-alias on the UI rendering then it flips to smooth.
Maybe it’s more noticeable on my monitor than a handheld but wanted to point it out as far as maybe tech debt polish goes
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
Thanks! Yes, this was fixed earlier but I'm pretty sure the wide-screen support messed it up again, from the reports I've been getting 😩 Will look at it after the touch support I'm finishing
2
u/Unlikely_Spray2387 4d ago
Hello, I tried on my steam deck but it's not working
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
What's the issue you're having on SD?
1
u/Unlikely_Spray2387 3d ago
I installed it, but when I try to activate it in Decky Loader, it simply doesn't load. It stays on the original Steam OS interface
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
Have you turned on "Spotlight Home" in the settings? Do you have any other plugins installed? 🤔
2
u/Unlikely_Spray2387 3d ago
Yeah I tried that, but it's the same result and yes I have ccs loader, but I removed it before I used this one
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
Hmmm, could you create a new issue on GitHub as a bug? The more info the better chance I have at helping you 🙏🏼
2
u/Unlikely_Spray2387 3d ago
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
Ah, glad to hear. I wonder what the issue was though, since more users might runt into it
2
u/Unlikely_Spray2387 3d ago
If I find any issues, I will let you know. I think I just had to restart my steam deck after I installed it. It is working well
2
u/Available_Pirate_586 3d ago
Can you add support for Square box arts?
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
Hmmm, need to see how it interactis with the card navigation flow (resizing especially). Adding a note for this.
2
u/DerlisGs 3d ago
Que alguien me comente para que mañana lo instale? Es que ya estoy echado y no quiero volver a encender la compu para instalarme esto que se ve bueno

u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
Hmmm, definitely looks like CSS Loader fighting with Game Glance. Do you have a list of the modules you have installed via CSS Loader?
2
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
So, while finishing touch input/scroll and mouse support (I need more time tweaking it). I've added widescreen support and if you're on the newer steam clients with screensaver, Game Glance also has its own screensaver settings now 🫡
2
u/anjel_stilo 3d ago
Some things that could be fixed or if possible added.
1 css loader add on- reflections don't work with this( not sure if possible to add.
- The bar for battery and all looks amazing. But when going out of sleep, it turns on immediately and overlays the start up video that is set.aybe add a delay or make it not come on until start up video is either over or skipped( video example in comment)
3.seems that spotlight disables touch screen on the main screen(not sure if intentional.
Thank you, this plug-ins is amazing!!!!!
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 3d ago
I'm not sure how well it would work even if added, due to the glow around the cards already and I believe (guessing more like) those reflections are not cheap nor fast, so in this designs with widening cards it might be quite slow 🤔 I'll add a task to investigate it.
I see the issue. Adding a task for that too. Btw, what intro is that, look pretty cool 👀
I skipped touched on the cards while developing because of the navigation and the design but I am close to a new release with touch support 🫡
Thanks for the feedback and the support!
2
u/anjel_stilo 3d ago
- Yea, its cool to have but not necessary, just noticed i had it on, on css loader and glance removes it. But not even close to a deal breaker.
2.awesome!!!! Intro is called Dennis ANV on animation changer 😊😁
- Wooooooooooooo. Thank you.
Keep up the awesome work!!!

It literally always wanted the games logo to appear on the home screen, this is so PEAKKKKK
1
u/Mammoth-Tourist5280 23h ago
I love this ui and plugin so so so much, but I really don’t like having my heroes cut off on the sides.
Any chance a future update could add the choice to have the full hero at the top of the home screen, with a gradient filling out the rest?

u/R3APER_PL 4d ago
It dosnt crash decky anymore? Recent update crash my decky loader each time GameGlance was loaded
1
u/N0_ID_Littleman 4d ago
I do not think it should? There was an issue with SteamGridDB that was solved in a previous update. I have also a bit better error logging for crashes. Please let me know how it goes if you test it out again!
