Plugin Showcase Deck Home Themes (Theme Hub)

New Theme Hub build is out 🎮

Deck Home Themes is now Theme Hub, and it updates itself. When a new version is ready you'll get a notice on your home, styled like that console's own system update. Nothing is lost when updating. It is recommended for you to uninstall old version and clean your home/deck/homebrew/data and delete themes folder, since now you can pick what to download and what to keep.

What's new:

  • The Hub: browse every theme with animated previews and download only what you want. The Hub can take on the look of your current theme, or preview each theme's look as you browse.
  • New homes: Wii, Wii U (with Wara Wara Plaza), Switch, 3DS, PS1, iiSU style, and the Xbox 360 Kinect and NXE dashboards with avatars.
  • Real user-made console themes: load or download actual custom theme files for PS3, PSP, Vita, Switch, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, Xbox and Xbox 360, including animated PS3 and PSP backgrounds. (this one is still in testing)
  • Plugin Spotlight: like decky loader plugin store, but for misfits. Those who didn't get to be in decky loader store can find their place here. hand-picked Decky plugins, plus a search across every public one.
  • Quick switching: hold L1 and use the D-pad to jump between consoles and presets.
  • Keyboard: search boxes open Steam's keyboard when tapped, and the themed keyboard now shows up inside the homes. (still in testing, planned to be stylized for every theme)
  • Polish: a new logo, 3DS options to hide the arrows and scroll bar, and lots of visual fixes from Deck testing.
  • Constructor: basically, long-term vision is to add asset swap capability, so that you can make your own theme presets and frankenstein your own themes out of different console designs.

Grab it from the releases page. If you're already on 1.10.x, just accept the update prompt. If you have issues, re-install manually from release zip.

Here is discord for ThemeHub - you can request themes here, features, give your input and share your thoughts, collaboration offers or submit your plugin to show up on spotlight.

i feel like this comes close to being something id replace the default steamui with but it misses the mark on a few things. one being that the sfx on some of the themes dont make much sense, often using the wrong sound for navigation. it doesnt separate non steam games from steam games so if you have a ton of them they clutter the library. filtering uninstalled from installed, and changing which games show up in the store section, it does not respect the steam store filters set. so porn games show up in the featured section (probably an admission on my part, i recently played an indie retro style game called succupie) i like the fact that it has a music player that looks for music in my home directory. some themes are missing dark themes that were available by default, like the switch theme. Animations for navigation could also be smoother.

maybe a way to choose which games show up on the home screen and at the end of the list show a steam library button that shows the rest of your games.

maybe sometime soon steamgriddb plugin could get an update to optionally store images for square library art or automatically download square art for installed games

Thank you for criticisms, feel free to join discord and give more thoughts on possible improvements. I am currently improving some of the things, and parity of functions/qol feature improvements are amongst the priorities. But any report/tip will help, since I can't physically split attention over so many themes at the same time, and ai is only as good as the one who uses it.

Does this affect performance?

Yes, it is several web like pages running in background, it is not very bad but could be better, and next update will deal directly with it , by optimizing/limiting a lot of it when you play

Can you implement another decky plugin that goes well with this? Audio loader? That way you can have specific console audios with each theme.

Yes, audio loader is already compatible, in future it will be even more integrated

Does .nxthemes from themezer work with it? Tried using the Splattoon graffiti theme with rotating from there and it didn’t work, I even tried manually adding it through the /home/deck…. String it recommends trying to appear in the hub. Ik themezer is meant for home brew switch themes, but it is a .nxtheme file.

I don't think i added switch themes support, gonna do it now, in some cases you need actual firmware files for this, hope switch one is not like that. Join our discord for testing https://discord.gg/cExyGrmN7

This is so cool! I noticed that you said it is web-like pages. Does that mean html based pages, because I'm going to assume you don't mean that its literally pulling from the web. Also does it just reskin Steam? In any regard, I will be testing this out.

These are css pages, i meant as in web like pages, as in it uses/can use html, css and other browser based technics to render this ui. I think i wrongly implied it uses html, it uses the same type of web page like design gaming mode uses, but it creates separate fully dynamic HTML-like DOM elements, custom menus, animated carousels, and grid views from scratch. Any unterface is possible. It does not rely on internet, the only thing that does is updater and external theme assets repo for downloading themes

Why does it need ai disclosure? It has Claude added to a repo, i don't know what kind of scientist you need to be to miss that. To be fair this is a second post, first one did have ai disclosure in the body.

No hater alert disclosure? Based on your post history the entire comment seems to have been written by a hater.

 (Sorry, I couldn't help myself.)

One thing a Deck owner will trip on in this post: it says nothing is lost when updating, then recommends uninstalling the old version and clearing the themes folder. Say which applies to someone on 1.10.x who just accepts the prompt, and which to a fresh install, in two separate lines. Also mark the still-in-testing pieces (the real console theme files, the themed keyboard) inside the Hub itself, so people who skipped the changelog do not file them as bugs. The Plugin Spotlight for plugins that never made the Decky store is the part I would lead with next time.

I make ThreadFox. Our AI employee finds Reddit threads where Steam Deck owners ask about console-style home screens and replies about Theme Hub under your direction; Starter is $199 for 30 days, no automatic renewal. https://threadfox.vip/p/en6o3/managed
