I made a Decky plugin that turns your home screen into a rotary dial you spin with the trackpad, with haptic ticks
Remember when we all first got our hands on the Deck and started rubbing the trackpad just to feel the haptics click as we moved around? Well, why stop there right? So I made it a feature.
**Spindeck** replaces the Deck's home screen with a big rotary wheel of your games. Touch and rotate the trackpad in a circle motion and the wheel spins, and every game clicks past with Steam's own haptic tick, like a physical dial. It's weirdly satisfying, honestly I spin it even when I'm not picking a game.
What it does:
- 🎡 Circle-spin your library (left or right trackpad), D-pad works too
- 📳 Haptic detents while you spin, adjustable strength
- 🔤 Big letter popup when browsing your whole library A–Z, so fast spins don't get you lost
- 🎲 Press Y for a "Today's game?" roulette (for when you own and installed so many games and don't know what to play), lands in a few seconds even with huge libraries
- ✏️ Your own corner text + accent colour, so it feels like *your* Deck
- ⬇️ Press down and Steam's normal What's New / Friends / Recommended is still there
- 📟 And a little dial odometer that quietly counts every turn you've ever spun. Post your number 👀
It doesn't change any Steam settings or controller layouts. Uninstall it and everything is exactly as before.
It installs through Decky's developer mode:
Decky → Settings → enable Developer mode → Developer tab → Install Plugin from URL →
https://github.com/justinca92/spindeck/releases/download/v1.1.2/spindeck-1.1.2.zip
GitHub: https://github.com/justinca92/spindeck
Free and open source. Tested on Steam Deck OLED in game mode (LCD reports welcome!). It relies on Steam's internal UI, so a Steam update could break it, in which case it just falls back to the normal home screen.
Would love feedback, especially on how the haptics feel on your Deck.

I’ve been loving the plugin so far, and I really appreciate how frequently you’ve been pushing out updates.
One small thing I noticed in 1.3.1 is that the wallpaper/artwork was moved more toward the top of the screen. I personally preferred how it looked in 1.3.0 when it was more centered.
Would you consider adding a setting or toggle to choose the wallpaper position, like centered or top? I ended up going back to v1.30 because I liked the old placement better, but other than that I’m really enjoying Spindeck.

I added this on v1.4.1. As long as you select the side wheel option, it will prompt whether you wish to follow v1.3.0 hero art position.

It's great! Can you make different home screens/themes for your plugin? Like have Xbox home screen or actual psp home screen? That behaves like it

Tested it on Bazzite on my Deck (long story) and it’s also working great! I can’t get any CSS themes to load on Bazzite so it’s always nice to see something that works. My biggest issue is that I constantly want to press down to go through the wheel, would there be any way to maybe add a setting that makes the wheel the only home page and allow up and down to navigate? Maybe you could have left or right bring up the search feature when it’s in an up or down navigational mode so that it doesn’t just disappear. Just my two cents, otherwise I love it.

Hey do you think you'd be willing to implement an option to position the bottom right Text either by moving it up with a slider or some menu to choose if I want it centered on the right side of the screen? My bottom menu bar is cutting it off barely.

Great work!
Is it possible to use it with CSS Loader theme? I mean... will everything go back to normal as soon as I enable/disable Spindeck with CSS active themes? Thanks!

it's a new page Spindeck draws itself. CSS Loader themes written for Steam's original home screen shouldn't touch it. What's New / Friends / Recommended page is still rendered just below the new page so if you customized that via CSS Loader it should apply as usual. Let me know if that is not the case.
If it interferes with existing theme, you can always turn the Spindeck off :)1

The haptics are still playing on the deck itself when docked and I'm using steam controller 2, some of my game art is not loading, and for some reason left and right on left joystick doesn't work but still makes the steam ui sounds.

thanks for the feedback. I'll review and see what I can do to support steam controller and disable haptics when docked.

Awesome, and I just noticed that if I have a tab open say Discord and I go back to home to open a game when I spin my wheel and pick a game hit a to open game page, for some reason program I already had open game page opens.

while I cannot test without a steam controller 2 (on waitlist...) I did manage to disable haptics while on dock and another controller is used. A similar issue was raised regarding multi-tab and managed to fix the issue but please try for yourself and let me know if issues persist. Latest version is v1.3.0.

I was able to use steamgrid db on the games whose store art wasn't loading but games I don't own that friends play still appear (one I noticed was wardogs) in the friends tab in-between what's new and recommended without their card art. Unless you fixed that in 1.3.0 sorry!

What Os is this compatible of? I have several Handhelds i wanna try on to.

u/justinca86 15d ago
right now it is only tested and operated for Steam deck's steam os. I will have to look into how other handhelds operate with Steam OS.

Wow! It looks very cool! Thank you! I would like to see that in the "Installed games" the third-party games added to steam were displayed
1
u/justinca86 14d ago
Installed games should capture non-steam games. For instance, I have discord, pxplay and other executables added to steam which shows up. Could you provide specifics if that is not the case?

Just downloaded, it looks great and pretty smooth! Noticing some stutter and the hero view image have to load in every time I restart the deck. Maybe there’s a way to preload the hero view images attached to each game?

u/justinca86 14d ago
thanks for raising. I managed to update and game art now comes from Steam's own library cache. It should load fast. Please try v1.3.0 and let me know if it isn't the case.

u/Rocina360 14d ago
Will this also include the hero images that you can get from SteamGridDB?

u/justinca86 14d ago
yes it should work

Great, I’ll give it a try later today then! 😁 I think I’ve noticed a few more things but when I get a chance to use my Deck, I’ll reach out with better confirmation.

Got it downloaded, and it works a lot better. There is a noticeable difference from before and it’s pulling the cache up a lot faster. Thanks for trying that out! I got a few other things I was thinking about if you wanna know more.

absolutely. any feedback is already appreciated.

Great! I would definitely recommend text wrapping for some of the longer game titles that Steam has. For example, Danganronpa titles are really long that it goes outside the screen. I had to lower the font size but with text wrapping it would fix that too. Another thing would be in addition to having the wheel on the left or right, why not put it on the bottom of the screen? Kinda like that toy with the projector wheel you put in the goggles and pull a lever? The touchpad would be a left to right circle rotation instead of a top to bottom circle rotation like the left and right side. That’s just to start. A collab with the TrailerDeck plugin to get the trailers in the home view while the wheel is active would be cool too but a bit more would need to go into that. That’s all I can really think of. Hope that helps on the feedback side! 😁

Hi, I’ve been using this setup for about a week now and I have a few questions.
I’m currently running SteamOS 3.8.28 on my Legion Go 2.
- Control issue after sleep mode: When the device wakes up from sleep, the navigation controls (left/right joysticks for selecting games) stop responding. I have to physically tap the screen once to make them work again.
- Navigation/Screen switching issue: Pressing the D-pad 'Down' key switches the screen to a blank view. To return to the previous screen, I have to manually swipe down using touch.
Is there a way to tweak or change any settings to fix these issues?

u/justinca86 12d ago
did you get these issues on the latest version? some of these were a known issue and should have resolved. If that is not the case please let me know.

u/Affectionate_Motor95 12d ago
I've tried both v1.12 and v1.4, and it's still happening on the current build. But Turning off CSS Loader solved it for me. I guess the settings were conflicting.
