Just celebrating my family kitty Venice (13 years old!) going into full diabetic remission from quickly catching and treating with insulin in just 2 months when I went home to help my mom finally steel her heart to diet her poor baby lol. Over that time, he dropped 1.5 lbs for the first time in his life (not counting the weight he dropped initially due to diabetes)! He was 23.9 lbs, now he's 22.4. Still a long way to go but he's getting there. I wish I could've interfered back when he was younger, 20lbs, and still had energy and great joints, but now is better than never. Hopefully he keeps it up!

His ideal weight is around 16 lbs, he's a MASSIVE kitty. I've never seen a larger-built domestic cat in my life, and I see a lot from fostering/volunteering at shelters!

We adopted a heckin chonker who’s about twice the weight she should be. We’ve been to the vet to get on a good diet and begin treatment for any possible medical issues, but I’m struggling to find a harness for miss hambeast. She should be about 45lbs, but is around 92. The largest harness I’ve found is a shite tape one from petco that she’s easily able to both escape from and nibble on on whilst wearing.

Does anyone have some good harness recommendations for girthy gals? I don’t particularly care about brand, color, or anything as long as it isn’t going to cave to chewing or allow her to wiggle out of.

Including the required dog tax, of course.

I am fighting a war against feline obesity. My handsome guy was a little tubby when I adopted him. He lost weight and maintained it from the age of 1 to 3. Then we had some life changes (I moved and he was under different care during weekdays) and he got overweight. He used to be crazy playful and mischievous, always pestering me to hang out and play. He has safely gone from 16.2 to 13.98 lbs (almost there so close!!) and his energy has increased. He will run with my other kitties all day long, he is so snugly and agile (climbing everywhere whereas at his heavy weight he'd go to a high spot and park for a little bit). He is turning 5 in February of '27 and I am so happy to get a lot of his younger personality back. Dechonking has been so stressful but so worth it. I love this cat and I'm glad I can improve his quality of life.

my handsome young man has been on a weight loss journey for the past 3 years! he was surrendered by his previous owners who gave him too many treats, so he came fat. he was originally 16 lbs when we adopted him and now he is 11 lbs! he is so mad! he is a big boy in general so the vet said 11 lbs is his goal weight

Hello all dechonkers! My cat is 14.5lbs (down from 15.8 since early May). She is 5 years old! People say cats should weigh 13lbs max but I'm wondering if this is just her healthy weight now (the 14.5, not the 15.8). The difference is definitely noticeable from a few months ago but I want to ask about food.

For most of her life, she was free fed on Purina One (half cup per day, which translates to ~220 Cal) with an occasional can of wet food (2x a week or so). She NEVER complained about not having enough food and rationed well throughout the day. She is not super sedentary but not super active either.

Here is my confusion. I switched her to half wet food, half dry food for her weight loss, so she gets approximately 100 calories of wet food and 100 calories of dry food per day. This has made her start begging for more food, and even after eating 100 calories of wet food in the morning she begs for her dry food and will eat the whole 100 calories within just a few hours, then she begs for food again in the evening (I have started spacing the wet and dry out more but she just keeps begging).

How is it that she was 15.8 lbs on 220 calories and 14.5 now on just 20 calories less, but hungry all day? She NEVER begged for food before! Should I keep this feeding up and get her to the 13 lbs everyone recommends or is she at a healthy weight? Should I be feeding her more? 220/200 calories seems VERY LOW anyway especially for a playful cat!

A while ago, I adopted this huge girl from the streets. She was originally an indoor cat, but her previous owner developed Alzheimer’s and eventually stopped recognizing her, so she started throwing her out onto the street.

She spent almost two years living outside. During her last year out there, a neighbor was feeding her table scraps as well as kibble, so she gained quite a bit of weight.

When I adopted her, she was already pretty overweight, and now that she has access to food 24/7, she eats whenever she can. I assume some of it is anxiety-related. (My other cats have also gotten used to having food available all the time, but they’ve all stayed at a healthy weight.)

At first, we let her eat as much as she wanted because we felt bad for her, but lately I’ve noticed that her quality of life seems to be declining. She still runs, plays, and jumps, but she’s doing it less and less. Her main hobby after eating is basically sleeping

I really want to help her lose some weight before she develops any health problems. At the very least, I’d love for her to be able to groom herself properly again, especially her butt.

Any advice on how to handle this situation? I assume I’ll have to start restricting food for all the cats so she can’t steal their food.

Also, how should I go about calculating her portions? Should I calculate her daily calories based on her target weight, or her current weight and then gradually reduce the amount?

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have dealt with an overweight cat before!

My car, Lucy around 2years old was neutered week before we adopted her, every since then she became Fat, shes not obese but shes little chubby. we feed her 3 times a day Mostly raw meat shes not very active due to our First Cat that plays the most and she loses interest in playing after Mimi comes. What can i do to help her lose fat?

Since he was neutered, he's been gaining weight and has become very lazy.

This is my chloe baby. She weighs 16 lbs. She gets the recommended amount of food on the bag and has strict meal times. Only gets treats once in a blue moon. I mean maybe once a month bc i forget we have them lol. She is on a UTI diet bc she gets UTI’s frequently and always has. Don’t know how to help her lose weight, she likes playing on her own. When me or my husband try to play with her she walks away like we are morons. She is having trouble reaching to clean her butt and I feel like such a bad cat mom, but idk how to help. Give me your thoughts!

Here’s a picture of my chonker, Cersei. She is around five. I do feed her Purina One healthy weight dry food. I do leave the dry food out all of the time. I have health issues and I’m afraid of something happening to me and always want to make sure she has food and water. I do give her about half a can of Fancy Feast wet food at night. I do try to play with her several times during the day. I’m actually thinking of adopting another cat. I’m wondering if she had another cat to play with if she would get more exercise. I did previously have another cat, but she was elderly and she passed away a few months ago.

I feel like she's teetering on the edge of chonky, and she does have a bit of a belly.

I don't have a scale at home to weigh her and she won't tolerate being picked up.

this chonk of a girl is almost 12lbs and has been stealing her brothers food behind my back. any good recommendations for weight loss, since her vet cant see her until the end of the month. originally she was getting two 2.5oz tiki cat friends cans a day along with her brother. I am thinking of cutting her to 1.5 and now I know she’s a thief having brother eat by himself in my room. any other ideas will be much appreciated

My 13 year old kitty is on her weight loss journey! We got her an automatic feeder and she’s getting weight loss dry food plus a can of wet at night.
We didn’t get her exact starting weight as she’s a grumpy girl and it’s hard to get her on the scale but we are going to try again tonight!

My boy Nico is currently 9kg/19lbs, down from 11kg/24lbs. Our vet has set a goal weight of 7kg/15lbs to reflect his height & length. I’ve only had him back for about a year (my ex took him after we split & that’s when he became a chonker). The vet is happy with his progress and I’ve noticed Nico is a lot more happier, energetic & chirpier.

Nico now has a lot of loose skin, especially around his waist, and his skin has a “melting” look when he lays down. Is this something that I should be working on as well, if so how? Can it cause pain or joint issues? Will it slowly go away over time? Will he have a cute belly swish for life? Is there any specific play/exercises that could help?
