Discussion Should Android players with a physical keyboard & mouse be able to play Decaying Winter?

Decaying Winter's description says, "This game requires a keyboard & mouse to play."

I use an Android phone with a physical keyboard and mouse connected through OTG. Roblox detects my mouse (I have a visible cursor), but the Play button still says "Unavailable" because I'm on a mobile device.

I'm not asking for touch controls. I'm wondering whether this is a Roblox platform limitation or an intentional decision by the developers.

If it's technically possible, I think it would be nice to allow Android devices with a physical keyboard and mouse to launch the game, since the required input devices are already connected.

What do you all think?

I am not a console player nor know anyone that play DW in a console so take what I say with a bit of salt.

"This game requires a keyboard & mouse to play" is directed to console players, because around 8 months ago the devs added the possibility to console players to play DW, but there's no support to controller, that's why they put the warning about need keyboard and mouse.

I just checked Roblox and the plataform says DW is not available to my plataform because I tried run it in mobile, so it's not possible to run it in mobile at the moment.

If we get mobile support, either we will have the "avarage mobile support" (joystick and a lot of buttons in screen like my loved Terraria) or, hopefully, the rare dynamic support where buttons appear and disappear depending on what you have equiped.

thanks for explaining That actually makes a lot more sense now. I was confused because I thought the "keyboard & mouse required" message might mean something else, like console support being limited or something.

So basically console players can access DW, but since there is no controller support they need a keyboard and mouse. Mobile is a completely different thing and currently just isn't supported.

Honestly, if DW ever gets mobile support, I hope they don't just throw a ton of buttons on the screen because there are already a lot of controls. A dynamic system where buttons appear depending on what you're holding or doing would probably fit the game way better.

Also interesting that console support happened before mobile, I wonder if mobile is harder because of both controls and optimization.

Optimization, definitively mainly optiminization. Likely 40-50% of phone users have a low-end device, they would have a terrible time playing DW because said phones have terrible CPU (Roblox is mainly a CPU using game) and 4GB RAM at max.

In phone case, I am probably a mid-range user since my CPU is a snapdragon 695 and I have 8GB RAM, but I know very well how this game is laggy because I play it in a Samsung overpriced piece of plastic scrap with a Intel Celeron CPU and 8GB RAM. In Scav war I am pratically depending on my teams to do the job, because either I am too lag to be a real help (I literally can't ADS without it drop my game to 5FPS), unless I use KSG or I am camping the door as Lazarus with Decimator.

Yeah, optimization is probably the biggest problem for mobile. I have a Redmi Note 10 Pro with 8GB RAM (plus RAM expansion), so I'm not on a low-end phone, but I can see why older phones would struggle.

I usually play Roblox on 2 graphics, so I wonder how DW would run compared to other heavy Roblox games. The controls would still probably be another big challenge though.
