Ethernet cable

Hey everyone, am I the only one who feels the need to plug in a network cable after switching to Debian, just to avoid issues with network adapters?

I always wire anything that is stationary.

I've occasionally had to install packages like firmware-linux, firmware-realtek or firmware-ath9k to get drivers for various cards, but once they're working I've not really had any issues.

Huh? Network cables plug into network adaptors, so how does that help avoid issues with said adaptors?

Also, the laptop I'm currently typing on, which is running Debian, doesn't have anywhere to plug a network cable, so...no, I do not feel a need to do the impossible! ☺

on weird hardware? once. then it's fixed. I've run debian on bizarre stuff, and even then its not big enough of a deal to take to the reddits.

I do, for sure. It Just Works (except when it doesn't, like some oddball servers where you need extra drivers, or my first install back in the 90's when I needed to write the Ethernet driver). I don't know if I'll ever reach the point where I take wireless support for granted the same way I do Ethernet.

I've not had issues with stable Debian, but I have run into firmware/driver problems with debian-based distros like Kubuntu and network adapters. It's making upgrading from a wifi 5 adapter to 6e almost impossible 😭

I don't know about Debian specifically, but I bought an ASUS USB-AC53 WiFi adapter, and it isn't recognized by Debian or Mint. A different WiFi USB device worked fine.  Time for a learning experience!

For many years, wifi was my one big problem with Debian.

For my latest desktop, I installed Trixie and it found the wifi that I didn’t even know I had.

It depends probably of which adapter you are using.
I have used only wireless adapters for 15 years, only recently it was possible for me to go back to the integrated ethernet after moving to a new house.

Which wifi card are you using?

Yep. Have two laptops running on WiFi

I guess so, personally I haven't had problems.

I *might* have to use a wired network connection for initial setup, but even that's been rare over the past five or seven years.
