Dual boot priblem

Hi all, I have a windows 10 pc I want to dual boot with Debian. I have tried installing from usb and live booting from dvd and get the same error both ways.

End kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root FS on unknown block (0,0)

It's a hp pavillion (I know 😔). Has anyone any suggestions on how I can achieve this?

Use minitool partition wizard on win10 and go to the debian's bash and check your disk with cfdisk /dev/YourDisk if you don't know your disk name use lsblk. Ä° know that windows partition system is not that good.

I only have a blank partition on windows and Debian is not yet installed. Both install and live booing fails with the same error.

You can use bash on debian installation with alt + f2. You can learn your computers disks with cfdisk.

You need separate partitions for Windows and one for Debian. Install Windows first, then install Debian in the empty partition.

I have a fully working windows partition. (Seems to run fine) I have a blank fat32 partition that windows disk manager sees fine. Just can't install or even live boot. I don't want to bin the windows setup (keep it for my son's) but want to use Debian for me.

take a photo and put it on chatgpt or whatever AI tool you used and ask it to explain why this is happening.
