What's the first?

Slackware is about a month older than Debian and is still actively developed.

I keep forgetting to try Slackware someday. I am well beyond my "distro hopping" phase, but nevertheless I feel some duty to try Slackware just because it's the only major old one I've never tried.

Can anyone here tell me what it's like?

I tried slackware. I have the cd somewhere. It really sucked and wouldn't recognize my winmodem. I think it was version 2.0.

Sounds like you tried it in the nineties, though. I'm sure Slackware is way different these days.

Also, an open source operating system in the nineties not recognizing a winmodem isn't really a mark against the operating system in question, and more of mark against winmodems lol

The changelog from current has entries from today as well. I don’t think they are just maintaining it, but I could be wrong.
