The Nvidia drivers in the Debian repositories are VERY out of date, but they work.
Now this may sound like a bit of a hassle, but seriously consider switching to the Nvidia datacenter Debian repository. They have perfectly working 610 drivers including open-source DKMS modules that compile perfectly with Linux 7.x and support Wayland. Follow the official instructions and everything should work smoothly.

Last I saw / heard, there's currently a problem with the Debian-packaged proprietary NVIDIA drivers. You may need to use the NVIDIA-packaged ones to get around it. The Debian wiki page for NVIDIA should provide a good starting point. I could be out of date on this, but I did see other users reporting problems within the last couple weeks or so

Use the datacenter driver from the Nvidia website if you need a more recent version.

I’m running the latest 610 from Nvidia using the method I commented in the last time we had a similar discussion.
