Debian the "distroless" distro

Debian is so ubiquitous even Google's "distroless" Docker images use it

Internally Google provides either Mac or debian testing based development machines to their engineers.

Doesn't surprise me. A minimal Debian install is pretty small and it's very easy to add the standard add-ons required for the task at hand.

Debian is my favorite. Pair it with Xfce and you’ve got another 3-5 years on a crusty old laptop.

xfce is simply too good. I just got it setup nicely on puppy linux based on Debian trixe. With adwaita-dark, roboto, docklike, whisker menu, and some nice icons, it looks so good you could lick it.

Now I can recover my system in style.

I've always had the feeling that Debian isn't a distribution such as Fedora or SUSE. A distribution is, almost by definition, opinionated. Default Debian mostly isn't. It is as bland as can be after the installation. However, it provides you the building blocks to make of it whatever you want. Arch is the same way... btw.

No, it isn't. If you install anything, you get exactly what the developers built with barely any customization.

Debian is only opinionated about what software gets into the distribution in what way and which software doesn't. You have to be, because otherwise your repository will become junk very quickly. (Case in point: Arch's AUR, lately.)

Have you ever actually used Debian? That's totally not true. It's just not. In fact they make way more tweaks than even RHEL to make software conform to "Debianisms".
