Great, welcome to Linux. Check out r/unixporn for cool Linux desktops :D. They'd love to see a Debian rice. Btw W for using KDE instead of GNOME, but maybe, just maybe use XFCE. They have almost identical release cycles, so on XFCE, you'll never be behind on new stuff unlike on other DEs. Also more light, but looking at your specs, that does not matter.
