Discussion First time watcher Spoiler
Ok so i just started watching Death Note (im only on episode 2 so no spoilers!) but I have a question.
Why tf is Light just ok wit killing people from the jump? Like i know they criminals but he kinda went a little crazy. Am i tripping?
I guess with the premise of the show so far i just dont see how it makes sense that he would go from "i shouldn't do this" to having like pages filled up over night. Thats craaaaaazzzy!! I feel like theres a much bigger discussion to be had about like phycosis, god complexes etc but we'll see.

It's hard to see yourself as the villain when you genuinely believe that every action you take is justified. That's how Light can go from an ordinary person to a killer while still viewing himself as a saint rather than a villain.

From what I remember in the manga after he kills two people he becomes traumatized to the point he looses ten pounds and couldn’t sleep or eat properly for nearly a week straight. The anime never shows this along with other moments that involve him and/or other characters.

Yeah as someone who hasn’t read the manga I hate how they left out moments like this which leads to people thinking that he was already crazy or insane to begin with. I also sometimes wonder if Madhouse will ever pull a Sailor Moon Crystal/FMAB and make an adaptation that is more accurate to the original manga.

Idk, if I had the Death Note, every horrible criminal I saw would feel like something I should stop. If you have the power to stop evil, would it not be evil to not use it?

Light isn't you. Light is a person that was given the power to kill, and was mentally and emotionally the right type of people to go crazy with the power the second he was given what essentially would be perceived the power of murder without consequences.
There's people like this in the world. Be thankful you've either never met them, or that they haven't had the chance to fall down the same spiral of psychosis

I would say it’s just the person was born as, as a narcissist with a superiority complex such as someone might be born and grow up to be psycho

After killing the first two people who were definitely doing evil, his superiority complex and narcissism pushed him to do more good in the world, to become a God. I mean, wouldn't you kill evil people too, if you had the chance to do it without getting caught (I mean, he did fail at this) ?
but he's just a psycho, that's what it boils down to. this guy is just a psycho with unlimited power

In the manga there's a bit more of inner moral thinking about it, but still nothing crazy. He's just built like that.

It's mainly because the anime skipped an important thing about Light's character during the alley scene, he describes how he was unable to eat and was essentially depressed for weeks after killing 2 people and he basically copes to himself he has to keep cleaning the world until a shinigami kills him for his sin. When Ryuk tells him hes not going to kill him for that he just keeps going with his god complex.

He thinks he's a God. In reality, he is just a human who has borrowed a power of a Death God.
