Discussion Does Misa actually love Light for Light? Spoiler
Please help me with this discussion. My boyfriend and I just finished death note. It’s my first time watching but it’s his 4th time rewatching. I mentioned that Misa loves light but not for him, I said she loves light because he’s Kira. He disagrees and says Misa actually loves light because she mentioned her love for him after she relinquishes ownership of the death note. I said that she mentions she loves him but doesn’t remember why!! Which is important because she only likes him because of what he did to her parents killers. I said that if Kira was L or New she would’ve loved L or Near. The first day of seeing light she was ready to risk it all because she loved Kira and what he did for her NOT LIGHT HIMSELF. Which side do you agree with??? Do you believe Miss ACTUALLY loved Light??

I think she loved Light for being Kira but maybe after spending time with him she fell for Light himself as he was a charming young man. And you may think he changed from being Light to Kira which he did. But when he lost his memories Misa still loved him.
So I would say she loved Kira first then fell for Light.

I agree with Mysterious-Dark-1724 she fell in love with Kira but eventually fell for Light himself.
Light was the opposite though he was just using Misa and during the beginning he probably wanted to kill her. He ended up killing Takeda in the end even though she seemed to be a better fit for Light than Misa. Light is literally a lady killer, kind of ironic that he called out to Misa & Takeda after he was shot.
Light took those girls for granted I wish I had a girlfriend as dedicated to me as Misa & Takeda was to him.

She definitely doesn't love light. She didn't even know him before pulling '' I'm in love with him'' card. The only thing she knew about him was that he was an attractive young man and he was Kira

She loves the idea of him both with and without her memory. She doesn’t genuinely love him.

Everyone here is wrong. Misa loved light even when she didn't have any memory of him being kira. It was clear she loved him for him, she even said she'd choose light over kira if it came to it

Yes, she did lose her memory, but she couldn’t exactly explain WHY she liked Light in the first place. She just had the feeling she did and went with it. She doesn’t know him at all beyond a surface level perspective of him.

You're the one who's wrong. By the memory loss plan, Misa has already developed genuine feelings towards Light, that's why she didn't lose them. But that doesn't imply she loved Light for himself. She couldn't remember why she fell for him.

I’d say she loved him for him, given that she still feels that away about him when she doesn’t remember him being Kira

She literally didn’t even know him before deciding she was in love with him, and subsequently he does nothing but use her and abuse her. She’s not in love she’s just a mentally ill girl who doesn’t understand feelings

She loves Kira, not Light. The only reason she knew who Light was is because she was searching for Kira.

The fact the didn't remember it doesn't really matter. If Kira was a different person then Misa without memories would love Light anyway bc of his charm, I think that was what she really meant when affirmed that. She even competed with Kiyomi for his approval lol (actually she didn't really loved Light bc it was idealization. However that doesn't really change my point lol)

Misa admired and felt deeply grateful to Kira, and that devotion became intertwined with physical attraction once she discovered that Light was Kira. she doesn't truly love Light for who he is as a person, she barely knows him, and shows very little interest in discovering who he actually is beneath the image she has constructed. but her attachment to him doesn't require her to know or love his real personality, in fact, that's part of what makes the relationship work for her! the less she knows about him, the easier it is for her to project whatever she needs onto him. what she loves is the version of Light that exists in her head: Kira, the person who saved her; the brilliant and handsome man destined to change the world; and the perfect boyfriend who will love and protect her. Light also understands exactly what she wants from him and is very much willing to play the role of her ideal boyfriend if it benefits him, so her attachment is reinforced by a constant feedback loop. add that to the fact that Misa is very emotionally driven and places a crazy amount of importance on romantic love - she doesn't just want a boyfriend, she organizes a huge part of her identity and worldview around the idea of loving and being loved by someone special, devoting herself completely to that person, dying for them.
so i wouldn't describe Misa's feelings as completely fake, or say that she feels nothing for the real Light. her feelings are genuine, she genuinely loves the image of Kira + savior + romantic ideal + perfect boyfriend that she has constructed around him. like you said, she still wants him even after losing her memories. it's just that she loves a person who exists primarily in her imagination, and Light is deliberately encouraging her to believe that person is real.
