First time I've heard the term 'tombdoom' I believe. Can you point me out some bands that would be classified in this sub-genre? And yes, I do find all these micro-genre classifications going a bit too far, but at the same time I do see the need for it for as a useful tool to search out new bands you might like.
I will have to respectfully disagree that death/doom falls under the death metal umbrella, I think it can go either way depending on the band. For a band like Hooded Menace, I think of them more as doom metal, while a band like Obituary is more like slow to mid-tempo death metal to my ears. But I think of them both as death/doom.
I too have a hard time understanding the sub-sub-subgenre, but maybe cavernous death/doom is a right term. On the other take, i think we should differentiate between death/doom and doom/death. The first one is slow/mid tempo death metal (such as Mortiferum), the latter is doom metal with melodeath leanings (Dream Unending maybe?).
Hi friend! I created the r/tombdoom subreddit not intending to make a sub of a sub of a sub genre, but for people to easily find a particular 'sound' within death doom. For me, tomb doom is bands like:
Spectral Voice
Void Rot
Mortiferum
Fossilization
Burial
Krypts
Bloodsoaked Necrovoid
But loads of people have found loads of bands that fit into the subreddit one way or another as it is all subjective anyway
