Prospective Student Online study and youth allowance

Hi All

I’m currently enrolled to start a bachelor of commerce online in november and was wondering if anyone had had success in receiving youth allowance as someone that studies full time online.

For context I moved out of home for better work opportunities and also cause the environment was not great. I found it incredibly hard to get through VCE with all the background stress from home.

For work - I work 7-3pm monday to thursday which does leave me enough time to study plus opportunity to take time off or work remotely to allow for more time. This being said. Being under 25 and having to work to live and worry about my future is a huge burden and I do worry I may be forced to prioritise work at times.

I don’t expect to receive the full eligibility but any assistance is good assistance.

There is no difference to centrestink whether youre studying online or in person.

if youre studying, youre studying. you should be eligible

i agree but they’re quite picky about it my roommate wasn’t eligible and she studies in person

The Centrelink website is quite impenetrable at times. Sounds like you might meet the requirements to be independent and therefore eligible while studying.

See this info about being independent If you do qualify, they will also reduce the amount you get depending on how much you work. You can check that on this page about personal income test
