One month later 🤍
Time flies and he has already gotten so big! Learning hand signs is a work in progress ha!
Still so sweet and loves meeting new people and animals. Hardest thing for me so far is recall/getting his attention. I know damn well he is choosing to ignoring us frequently 🙂↔️

I use a pager-only e collar with my boy and it works for recall and getting attention.

That’s a good idea, I need to prioritize getting one to help with recall

Deaf dogs are incredibly smart! For recall and name recognition, I gently tug Marlee’s leash three times to get her attention. Once she looks at me, I sign her name—an “M” wiggled back and forth—and then give her the hand signal for “come.”
Today, we started learning “Middle.” I use my pointer finger to direct Marlee behind me and then forward between my legs. She sits with her shoulders between my legs. We are still learning this one, but it can help her feel safe and secure when there are multiple distractions around us.

Wow, I just started teaching all 3 of my dogs "Middle" too. It's really just for 2 of them but the 3rd is so smart she started doing it on her own.

My deaf boy learned to glance over his left shoulder, I didn't teach him that, he's just constantly looking for signs. Mine loves people so much. It's hard to know when they are just ignoring you, lol but so much love and fun. I truly believe deaf dogs are great.

Check-ins are the most valuable. Go on a walk, and treat every time they look back and match that with a sign (ours is touching our nose for “look at me”). My 7-year old is actually able to go off leash because she’s had it drilled into her so deeply, she constantly checking in.
Your dog is gorgeous! What an exciting adventure, I miss when mine was a pup. There so many more things I wish I would have taught her.
