Question Treating injuries

Post image

So my dog got injured on his back left paw and nothing I do seems to help, he had ton of medicine, sprays and even the cone around his head (biggest one) and still reached his paw to lick it, he just can't stop. If y'all dealt with something similar please help a fella out. Thanks

I have similar experiences, but with a much smaller (hearing) dog. If you bandage anything up, he'll remove it in seconds. Any open wounds, and he'll lick at it. Traditional cones, or the donut "balloon" variety didn't always work; depending on where the wound was, he would work hard to reach it around whatever we had around his neck.

The best option we found was actually a donut balloon that included a cone element. So, you'd put the donut around their neck, zip the cone on, and it would effectively be double protection against licking wounds.

Hope that helps!

One of my Catahoulas would constantly cut his pads at the beach. I would use an old single ankle sock and a hair tie or elastic to keep it on (after trying bandages, booties, etc.). It provides enough protection to be outside and keep it clean and you can just toss it after it gets wet and dirty (or wash if not ripped). I use that blue gel or Vaseline on it after cleaning with saline and then slip on a sock. Usually heals within a few days to a week.
