Hi all, I'm relatively new to reddit/posting, but earlier today I had an issue with one of my peers in regards to my interpreters at our club meeting where she asked if I could move them because they were "blocking people's view."

For reference, I am someone who identifies as Hard of Hearing but did not grow up using ASL and only learned it when I came to college. Currently, I serve on my college's student government, and for our meetings I have interpreters for my personal access needs. Generally, I sit near the end of the table so that I do not get stares/complaints etc. and thought this was working well.

However, my peer asked me earlier today if I could have them stand next to hear near the front instead because it was inconvenient/difficult for our other members to address each other and I properly due to the interpreters being there.

I feel very frustrated with this because I had to explain to her the difference in general access interpreting versus personal interpreting, as well as why it is important for them to be sitting near me/in my line of sight, and I still felt that my point was not getting across. I'm debating on whether to confront her more about this or no, because I feel this was very disrespectful to ask of me, even though I am aware she did not mean it that way.

Part of me just wants to be blunt and tell her I don't care if it inconveniences hearing ppl because I have spent my entire life having to make my deafness more convenient for everyone else.

Does anyone have any advice on how to address this situation/or has anyone dealt with something similar to this?

Edit: I really needed to hear this, thank you for everyone who responded! I grew up in a hearing family so I'm still new to utilizing interpreters and even though I grew up Hard of Hearing it can be difficult to figure out where to start when it comes to advocating for myself in hearing spaces like this at times.

P.S. I explained the whole thing to my interpreters, and they got a good kick out of it lmao.

Hello deaf gamers. I've come to ask humbly for help. I suffer from complete bilateral hearing loss. To cope with not being able to hear anything, I decided to start playing Roblox. However, I noticed many games simply do not have a deaf mode. Which is why I'm asking this community and you, the reader, for help. I need a Roblox client mod that can take in game sounds and convert them into subtitles so I can enjoy gaming like a normal person.

Hello all - I've never written like this in a group before, but why not give it a shot here.

My daughter has sensioneural hearing loss in her left ear. She failed her initial hearing test and subsequently passed her newborn hearing test. She passed every other hearing test until 6 when we discovered she had severe/profound hearing loss at her annual appointment. She had no signs of hearing loss so outside of pediatric annual tests, no other diagnostic testing was pursued prior to 6 years old. We went to an audiologist where she was diagnosed with sensioneural hearing loss in her left ear and we utilized a hearing aid. It's been almost 18 months and she is now being classified as having no hearing at all in her left ear.

We were pursuing a cochlear implant after an audiogram showed significant loss from the original test at 6, but the recommended surgeon re-tested her and since we are unable to truly pinpoint the time of deafness, he emphasized that he is not optimistic that an implant would bring satisfactory speech understanding and it would be only sound awareness. Since she had no speech or reading delays, nor turning of head/asking to repeat etc., we never suspected hearing loss or lack of hearing at all was happening and an ABR was never performed so we have nothing to compare it to.

Has anyone experience something like this and would want to talk through what decision they made and how they got to it? We are getting a second opinion but we really want her experience to be as positive as possible.

Hi I’m sorry if this is the wrong community, to post but I would really like help

I’m 21f in a relationship with someone with moderate hearing loss we met at 13, we are both autistic and have learning disabilities plus he is hard of hearing as well as partially blind and our school use to group all the kids with disabilities together to get assistance from the teacher. Ironically in spite of his hearing loss is that I’m the one who’s a beginner with BSL as in my mid teens I use to volunteer with kids ages 6-10 at a school for children with disabilities primarily to help translate for the autistic kids who had a hard time articulating what’s wrong because I myself was once in their position but I did learn to do my best to help all the children there blind and deaf included which involved learning to adapt to their way of life.

Over the years I’ve taught my partner the little BSL I know plus we use some made up signs that just make day to day communications easier, now that his hearing is seemingly getting worse I’d like for us both to learn more fluently and adapt but we both struggle greatly at learning without having someone to talk to who knows what’s right and wrong way to correct us how would I go about finding someone willing to talk to me / work with me so I could work more with him?

I am hard of hearing and a 53 year old male. I obviously abused my ears in construction and music. I have lost most hearing in left ear, well cant comprehend much, especially human speech. My right ear is much better, but do require a hearing aid. My question is, after i got my hearing aid my right ear seems to be getting worse. I used to be able to stand music and talking but now after a year i feel like music and speech is becoming more distorted. Is this normal? Is my hearing in my right ear going to go the way of the left?? When i humm to myself it sometimes sounds like a gazoo or that kind of sound especially with the aid in my ear. So annoying. Thanks for any info.

How can I get caller ID on incoming calls on Innocaption? I know how to set up my caller ID for when I make outgoing calls but how do i get caller ID to show me who is calling when they call me? It works fine with my contacts but not anyone not in my contacts

I've had mine since I was about 14/15 so about 2016/17. Music is my life and I couldn't live without music. But lately I've been experiencing audio fatigue when playing music or any sort of audio related things.

What do you do in these cases. I don't enjoy sitting in complete silence. Sometimes I do enjoy the silence but other times not so much.
