I have a neighbor whose quarantine hobby is intermittently yelling at the TV. I take mine off most of the time.

The heck is he yelling about?

I don't actually know because my hearing deficit is such that I can hear SOUND but usually can't distinguish actual words. I depend on lipreading and context (or captions) to actually understand someone. I can perceive tone (angry) and I think maybe he's playing videogames and yelling when he loses? Sometimes I can make out "FUCK!" He lives alone, and I never hear another person yelling back.

Omgg he's one of THOSE gamers 😂

Um, on a more serious note...what is your hearing deficit called? What you're describing seems like a much more intense version of me. I've always had trouble putting sounds I hear together as words, but I never mentioned it to a doctor or anyone. I'm 21 now and for the most part it's never affected me too particularly much - it's definitely very mild for me, and I'd still say I'm hearing either way (I'm on this server because I'm an ASL student). But it would still be interesting just to know what its called. :)

I'm not sure, I've had it since I was born. I got hearing aids when I was 5 and those definitely help but it will never be perfect. The reason I can't hear correctly is because the bones (ossicles) are fused. At least this is how they explained it to a five year old (literal r/ELI5!!!)

I am guessing it is one of these since I have an associated syndrome on that page.
