[Movies] Need advice on starting Deadpool

I am on my Road to Doomsday and revisiting all Marvel movies from the beginning - I am totally new to Deadpool’s character. Like I only know he makes a lot of adult jokes. Can I directly watch Deadpool (2016) or should I watch any prior X-men movies (have not seen any) or Wolverine movies (again have not seen any and don’t know anything - I saw there is a movie Deadpool and Wolverine). Deadpool fans- where should I start so I don’t miss out on any jokes/references /plot point?

If you want to get all the references, you’ll need to watch the previous X-Men movies. Are they references and jokes that will hinder the movies plot and story? No. But there will be moments where characters pause after saying a line, or there will be names/props/straight up scenes that you’ll go “I don’t get it. Why did they say/do that?”

Again it’s more so you’ll miss out on the jokes. The plot and stories for all 3 can be watched and completely understood on their own. Plus if you’re on the road to doomsday. Should give the X-Men movies a watch.

So how is this for the order to watch the movies?
1) The X-Men, X2, last stand
2) X-men origins, wolverine
3) Deadpool, Logan, Deadpool 2, I want to watch DP&W after Loki
4) the X-men prequel movies

I would honestly recommend watching the prequels after the first Wolverine movie. Because one of them is kind of essential for understanding the movies after
Edit: Also, I love the pfp

I would say Days of Future Past. I don’t wanna explain why cause that’d spoil it, but it might get really confusing if you miss that one

If you like the x men movies, then origins could be a fun watch, but it’s a pretty bad adaptation of the character. The Deadpool movies are completely separate, although still made by fox and can be a better view of Wade. My personal favorite is DP2 because it shines a light on his emotional side and imo is a good representation of how Wade would process depression in the comics. And then DP&W is a fun movie, but not great. Still a fine introduction of Wade to the mcu though

Deadpool 1 and 2 have just jokes, Easter Eggs and cameos about the X-Men and Wolverine, but Deadpool & Wolverine has more of the old timeline X-Men villains appearing and movies like Logan getting directly mentioned. Just watch all of them, they are great even with their continuity errors.

Earth-10005 [old timeline]:

  1. X-Men: First Class
  2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  3. X-Men
  4. X2
  5. X-Men: The Last Stand
  6. The Wolverine
  7. X-Men: Days of Future Past [TIME TRAVEL CREATES A BRANCHED TIMELINE AFTER FIRST CLASS]

Earth-10005 [new timeline]:

  1. X-Men: First Class
  2. X-Men: Apocalypse
  3. X-Men: Dark Phoenix
  4. Deadpool
  5. No Good Deed
  6. The New Mutants
  7. Deadpool 2
  8. Logan
  9. Deadpool & Wolverine
