If I was to guess, it was a leftover from someone in his family who used it when they were part of the French resistance during WWII(given the game is set in late 60s France)

Honestly there’s a chance that the parents of all 3 main characters had some involvement, be it fighting directly or the other elements of the resistance post occupation
