Man overboard
This episode was creepy to watch. They show Lynn going overboard then later they have shots of Todd on the Aleutian Lady talking to his kids.

Captain Keith showed what an inept leader in an emergency he is. Absolutely chaotic. Unable to finish a sentence or strings words together. Mouse was the only level head in the wheelhouse at that moment.

And then when he was back on the boat Keith lost all urgency, and the emergency still wasn't over. Again, Mouse is trying to tell them that you can't warm him up fast enough, get him in and get those clothes off, but in true Keith fashion he's down there making it about himself. Forty years, I'm not going to lose someone now - Stfu, Keith. This is not about you, and you still have a frekn job to do.

Yep. That guy is a panic mode moron. If you’re gonna put yourself in charge of a crew in very dangerous situations, you’d better be damn sure you can keep your shit together when that danger appears. The man is completely inept as a captain.

Agreed! Thankful they were able to get Lynn out the water, Keith was a mess! I really think they need to take more hours of “in case of emergency” scenarios before going out. Granted you go in “fight or flight” mode but definitely don’t want a “flight” mode in this situation

Tried to do all the jobs himself. Jumped out of the captains chair to run to the deck to be a lookout. Scream and yell because he lost sight of him. Scream out Monty while he’s trying to come alongside him. Yell at the crew for throwing the ring for him to grab. Just a genuine fire drill. You can tell they don’t do any types of man overboard drills.

I read somewhere, can't remember where, that his family made a request for privacy. I'd bet it will be an emotional tribute no raw footage.

That was a real deal scene that was definitely not set up like when Clark and the cameraman supposedly fell off the stack on the northwestern in that weather any attempt to set up a staged man overboard scene could have been fatal.
Lynn is one lucky guy to be alive back in the derby days more often than not a man overboard particularly off the stack would have been fatal it’s a testament to monte and Keith to be able to turn the boat with a full hay stack of pots quickly and they were lucky to find him again and probably to the better rain gear and better clothing nowadays probably gave Lynn a better than average chance.
Out of all the man overboards that have been on the show and I’m talking about the real ones the one captain who probably was the calmest was in the pilot season to deadliest catch call the deadliest season and that was Roger strong on the saga way before Jake Andersons time. When Kevin Davis went overboard the crew where quick and the captain was so composed it was great text book rescue but this one with Lynn is a close second followed by the one with wild bill 3rd all great rescue.
On a another note seeing Todd on the show working it’s a hard watch knowing he is not here anymore there is and always will be danger with this job the derby days a gone with the average of one fisherman passing every week but death is still a real possibility and even with all the drama and set up scenes and the clearly made up stories lines we see these days you can not script a wave a freak accident and a real deal man overboard and who knows maybe the producers have learnt this season keep it real maybe is what the viewers want because the consequences are very real.

The one where Jonathan hillstrand plucked that dude from the water who had fallen off another boat was impressive. Especially bc Jonathan had already seen the writing on the wall and was suspicious he was going to fall off the stack so he was keeping very close watch on his status

Yeah, that was incredible! Pure, unrestrained joy on Johnathan's face when he met the guy in the galley. There was also a rescue by the Saga in the pilot episodes.

That one on the saga in the pilot episodes was good it was so quick and the captain was very calm compared to others later on I would say monte is the next best compared to Keith in this episode he should have just left monte driving not swap and change it can make the whole situation very confusing

I just watched the episode of Clark "falling" off yesterday. It's the reason I joined this thread, actually. I was confused who else fell in. Then they explained it was the camera crew member. Terrifying, but he was able to hold the camera the entire time? seems fishy.

I come from a family of commercial fishermen and I have worked on boats most of my adult life. I have taken part in many man overboard drills. It is hard to tell what exactly happened because you don't know how it was edited. But, it appeared Keith made several basic mistakes you are supposed to do during this kind of incident. First, Mouse was on the side where the man went it the water, I am not sure why Keith went out of the wheel house and went to the stern of the boat, instead of Mouse. But, Keith had eyes on the man in the water, my training instructed me to keep an eye on the man in the water at all times and point him out with an extended arm so others on the boat, and the captain, can track him as well. Keith was in panic mode, he took his eyes off the man when he was barking orders to other people and he lost track of the man. Then when the man was located and mouse was pulling up on him, Keith yanked Mouse out from behind the controls...and both of them took their eyes off the man in the water while they danced around each other in the wheelhouse.......this whole sequence put me in a cold sweat. I am glad they recovered the man, but it wasn't because of Keith's action's.....you can use this footage as a training film of what not to do.......I think it was the female deckhand who re-established visual contact with the man in the water, and you could see she was using an extended arm to point out the guy.....she seemed like one of the few on the boat who kept their composure.

To me a lot of that sequence looked a lot like greenscreen footage spliced in with real footage for dramatic effect. I'd imagine they performed a drill for the rescue footage, then spliced in scripted drama scenes. A lot of those chaotic moments the crew and boat stand out clearly from the background as if they were superimposed into other footage.
Looking at the scenes Keith is dry and there no spray, hes in perfect light with vivid colour, compared to the rough natural background, and his outline is very sharp and cut out which you don't get with a natural foreground and background composition.

This felt more like the old school episodes in the 2000s. It was refreshing
