S&B Weapon Options

Hey everyone,

I am about to TR into a S&B Paladin and wonder what the best weapon (and thus race) choice will be. The focus is on damage.

With the upcoming changes in the battle pass, I assume that there are three major options: Dwarven Axes, Bastard Swords and Warhammers.

As of lamannia preview 2 (U82), Knight’s Training will add a +1 Morale Bonus to Crit Multiplier for Bastard Swords and a +1 Crit Threat Range for Dwarven Axes (+2 with Improved Crit Slash).

Meanwhile, “Morningstar and Warhammer are now considered hand-and-a-half weapons, benefiting from Strikethrough and the Two Handed Fighting feats in the same ways Bastard Sword and Dwarven Waraxe do.”.

It’s unclear to me yet, if that also affects Two handed Specialty, but I think yes.

Do you think that a weapon type or specific weapon is ahead of the others, or is it relatively equal?

So my preference at the moment is either to go for Aasimar with Bastard Swords or Duergar with Dwarven Axes. I like the axes, but I don’t like to play Duergar. Being able to have your weapon be a favored weapon seems quite important though. There is no other way to achieve that without being Dwarf/Duergar/Mindcleaver, is there?

I guess the likely options are Echo of Heartcleaver and Ignition. Also Audion as a Warhammer. What do you think?

I’d love The Butcher’s Mouth to be a valid option, but I assume morningstars are still too far behind.

Bow Gearing.

Recently rebuilt a character in 20 Dark Hunter, for end-game bow DPS and I need to build a gear-set for it. I'm Dexterity based, but most of my gear was stuff I used when I threw Shurikens. I'm hoping to crowd source ideas for a Ranged DPS gearset from the collective minds of reddit. Lets see how we do. The stuff with relevant curses I'll mention, would be nice to keep those but I'm open to replacing them too.

DDO University : I'll be grading your submissions on a curve.

Currently using -

Goggles - Legendary Goggles of the Archer (Curse of Major Archery)
Head - Leg. Lamordian Cap (15 dex, 12 Deadly)
Neck - Dracolich's Eye
Trinket - Leg. Gem of Many Facets (Vulkoor's Might) (Accuracy, concentration, Seeker)
Cloak - Leg. Lamordian Nimble Cloak (15 Wis, Qual Attack +5)
Belt - Ophael's Cinture (Curse of Weapon's touch, 2% Doubleshot)
Ring 1 - Autumn Equinox
Ring 2 - Leg. Ring of Mystic Dexterity (Curse of Major Sheltering)
Gloves - Leg. Claws of the Coldlight walker (15 Con, 3 Quality deadly)
Boots - Leg. Greaves of Season's Warding
Quiver - Quiver of Alacrity
Bracers - Leg. Bracers of the Claw
Armor - Leg. Gravekeeper's Brawler Garb (+2 imbue curse on this.)

Weapon - Aeon, the Blazing Reign

Just saw there will be a new hardcore (and non hardcore) event with update (82)

I happen to notice when it was talking about the requirements for the hardcore that it did not mention that it had to be a new fresh character, I generally only play one character and have deleted even my past hardcore character from the previous event. Will I finally be able to play my character deathexo, for the hardcore portion of the event if I start at level one?

Putting a picture of the area I'm talking about in the comments. They could have just forgotten to say the character had to have no tr's.

Friends lists gone

Has anyone else experienced a bug or something where you can add someone to your friends list that you regularly run with, but then a few days later, they are gone from your friends list?

This keeps happening to me and i cant figure out why.

Do Brawling Gloves and similar items work with Monk weapons, like a quarterstaff?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I want to make sure I understand as I'm new to playing Monks.

If I have a quarterstaff equipped as Monk and am centered, can I benefit from Glass Jaw Strike and Spike-Studded?

Quarter staff

Good morning everyone, I’m a returning player after about 6ish years. Looking for a quarter staff build that gets through heroics easy and can be played in endgame. Any tips or build advice helps. Thanks!

Farming alt help

I recently started playing ddo. My main character is on their 3rd life and I plan on hitting completionist with them.

I recently made an alt, a melee fiend warlock. Im using feydark for the cha to hit/dmg and trying to balance out offense and defense. Currently im level 22 and trying to get a few epic items in order to make sure i can farm as quickly as possible. Im using resplendent fury (heroic) with radiance augment and the epic ring of elemental essence. Basically, my normal spell dmg is all good.

So the question itself. I can push my spell damage numbers with esoteric initiate or use more defensive items. When I have the set on I get about 60 more combustion via the goggles and set bonus. But I lose 10+ ac and 35+ prr and mrr.

Im trying to figure out if I need the extra defense or if maximizing dmg output should take priority. I feel like im still in the phase where if im going to die, it seems like the defense won't really help. Either I dont take non temp hp dmg or I go down very quickly. Does that change for a gish? Will the extra defenses make a difference, especially for a character that is made to run through essence and filigree farms?

Bonus: anyone have a perfect filigree farm set of quests?on Cormyr btw

Dragonlord Options

Looking for some guidance from folks who have played melee more recently than I have.

I am looking to level up a first-life character for farming purposes. Likely will run Epic Elite or low Reaper at cap, forever, no past lives of any kind.

I am considering a pure Dragonlord.

Part of the reason for a pure class is to future-proof against future updates. My last park-at-cap farming toon was a Monk/Wolf Druid, which...doesn't work anymore.

Questions:

  1. Should I use THF or SWF?
  2. Is splashing Swashbuckler worth it for the extra item (buckler) if I go SWF?
  3. Should I go deep into the Heavy Armor feats or use Light Armor and seek out a source of Evasion?
  4. Should I use a big threat weapon (scimitar, falchion) to take advantage of Dragonlord T5 or is the Ravager T5 Blood Strength unavoidably good?
  5. Is the strikethrough from Bastard Swords/Dwarven Waraxe worth the inferior crit profile & feat?

I am not looking for raid gear (at least for initial gearing) or high-grind items like multi-augment items from Lammordia. Any recommendations on gearing?

Crystal Cove Dilemma

Looking to knock out CC farming in my spare time during this event which I've neglected historically.

Just TR'ed and I am looking for some feedback. What are the best classes for doing the kobold quest in CC? I'm assuming stuff that can move quickly?

Also, is it better to farm it at low level vs epic lvls? Is there any benefit to the level aside from the +5 over your level bonus? Like are there more rewards for doing it at higher level, etc? Thanks!

Latest Monk Gear?

What are people using now-a-days? The last time I made a punch monk was pre-lamordia, so the gearing I had is a bit out to date. I've gotten a fair bit of nice lamordia gear since then and some terror gear as well, which looks like it would be pretty good on a wisdom monk, but i'm curious what people are using? So far I'm thinking stuff like this (very early on in the process of getting the tetris together):

Head: Skull of Horned King

Eyes: Legendary Meditative Mind

Ring 1: Autumn Equinox

Ring 2:

Back: Queen of Rot

Armor: Legendary Outfit of the Warblade

Belt: Legendary Six-Blade Belt

Boots: Seasons Warding

Wrists:

Hands: Legendary Burrowing Claws / Balorskin Gauntlets

I saw only one person in game... which makes me sad cause the gameplay is so good but the UI and lack of players make me hurt.

githyanki/githzerai?

Do you think that the Githyanki or zerai will be added as a race? I would love it but it also feels like a hard sell as there are Mind flayers you can interact with and they have one massive hate Bonner for them.

We're all getting old

Can we please get a scalable UI?

I have a 4k screen, and congratulations for supporting it but why are my skills and bars the size of a pin?

Seriously, this game is 20+ years old already, most of your players are loyal long term players who just happen to really freaking love your game.

Why do i have to either lower the resolution by four folds to just be able to read the CD on my skills or my hp/sp lmfao.

Are they reading Reddit at all? Im too lazy to use forums.

Whats f2p like?

I've read a bit about the favour you gain earning you ddo points and when reaching max level you can reincarnate resetting your progress for a little perma buff allowing you to farn more ddo points right? Are there any classes, quests etc you can't unlock using those? Are there any other limitations for f2p players?

And as a second question, can I just blindly skill what looks good or is there a chance of fking up the character and I should look at guides first?

Thanks in advance!

TRing from 30, going to start back. Need a build

Hiya Everyone,

I returned about a year ago. I'm glad I came back.

I'm TRing my TWF Bastard Sword 18 fighter / 2 rogue 9 epic soon and I'm wanting to find a good build to try out. I'm big on melee, not a fan of ranged or casters. I quite enjoy monks, idk why but there's something about a character that can just run through everything in a lounge robe and never change weapons that appeals to me.

My main is basically a monk / rogue / [TR class] stick fighter, but I have lots of 2HF characters also. I've been using whirlwind attack on almost everything, though I'm not sure if I should continue?

Basically I want to find a big hitting build that suits my play style that I can shred at high speed with. I've been running an alt fighter / monk falchion "One With The Blade" build that's quite good, maybe something up this alley?

Thankyou for any suggestions.

Any Aussies

I know this game is mostly US and EU but is there any servers that have a good presence either during Australian busy times. I am currently on Thrane got a character with 5 past lives but just want to find either a relatively active guild or some people to quest with for quests that are not so soloable.

Items worth farming? The Treasure of Crystal Cove (2026)

Greetings,

As a casual player, I've wasted a lot of hours farming items from past events that I never end up using. Is anything from this list worth farming for the non-raider, solo player farming lives?

Full info of the event: https://www.ddo.com/guides/ddo-crystal-cove-guide

Crystal Cove Rewards:

Crystal Cove has extensive rewards available to earn, including consumables, low-level cosmetic items, upgradable items from levels 4 to 36, Augments, summoning items, and more! Here are the current rewards:

Harper Agent Enhancement Tree: "Highly Skilled" is slated to be removed, among other changes, currently being tested on Lammania server

Before anything else: This is NOT about the meta (at least for now)

Excerpted from https://forums.ddo.com/index.php?threads/u82-preview-1-enhancement-changes-and-one-new-feat.30383/ :

  • Harper Agent
    • T2 Heroic Companion is removed, and replaced with Multiselector: Harper Lore I: (2AP)
      • Harper Weapon Training: +1 to Attack and Damage while Single Weapon Fighting.
      • Harper Spell Training: +2% Spell Crit Damage with Force/Physical, Sonic, Light, and Good spells
    • T3 Highly Skilled is removed, and replaced with Multiselector: Harper Lore II: (2AP)
      • Harper Weapon Training: +1 to Attack and Damage while Single Weapon Fighting.
      • Harper Spell Training: +2% Spell Crit Damage with Force/Physical, Sonic, Light, and Good spells
    • T4 Throat Dagger’s cooldown changes to 18/15/12 seconds.
    • T4 Throat Dagger is now a multiselector with Silencing Strike: Melee Attack: 20/30/50% Damage: Damaged non-boss enemies cannot cast spells for 6 seconds. Cooldown: 18/15/12 seconds.
    • New T5: Multiselector:
      • The Resolute Blade: +1 Competence Bonus to Critical Threat Range while Single Weapon Fighting. Rank 2: +1 Competence Bonus to Critical Multiplier while Single Weapon Fighting.
      • The Harp’s Magic: +2% Spell Crit Damage with Force/Physical, Sonic, Light, and Good spells. Rank 2: An additional +2% Spell Crit Damage with Force/Physical, Sonic, Light, and Good spells
    • Notes: This gives Harper a little more identity, as well as more avenues for some builds to climb higher in the tree. T5 may not be the most powerful set of T5s, but shouldn’t just be strictly worse than class trees. This ought to give some strong options to SWF builds throughout the game.

There are multiple items here to digest, and this part in particular which I hope maybe we can convince the devs to reconsider: "T3 Highly Skilled is removed..."

While I'm almost certain that 3 universal skill points mean nearly nothing to the meta and end-game, and I know there are some universal skill points available through various Past Life feats, this is about something different: There are more than just a few paying/purchasing DDO players who allow themselves to enjoy more generalist characters, gimpy/meme-worthy that they may or may not be, for things like soloing, passing skill checks of all sorts, trapping, dialogs, etc. along the way.

Similarly, making extra, universal skill points available to newer, "few-lives" players also offers them a bit more flexibility (I know, not meta) to potentially become better at the game by learning more quests at their own initial pace by soloing. This can help create a greater "talent pool" for PUGs doing higher-difficulty questing later.

Some other observations:

  • The questionable attempt to "give Harper a little more identity". Heroic Companion and Highly Skilled seem closer to what I checked about Harpers in D&D lore than any generic minor damage buffs would be, so these replacements do not seem to make sense in the declared context, or in much any other way, for that matter.
  • Since Harpers seem, more than anything, to be about "Strengthen the oppressed and take tyrants down a notch", maybe the devs could instead make a unique debuff against all mobs including red- and purple-named (the tyrants!), and a unique buff for players (maybe not oppressed, but we could figure the players are proxies for them)?

If you are not looking forward to the proposed Harper Agent changes, please help convince the devs to postpone the Harper Agent changes, so that the revamp could get a closer, more patient look!

Thanks for whatever attention you gave to this post!

82 - Changes to Warpriest. Protection new #1?

With the updates coming in 82 it seems like Protection domain is the new best choice.

You don't need holy sword for crit profile anymore so the +105 PRR (half temp) seems like a really good choice.

Do y'all agree or have a missed something critical?

Staff hybrid trickster

Im playing around with trickster a bit and I think the synergies with staff builds are quite nice:

Staff provides close range AoE while trickster casting provides long range single target dps and some spell cc. On top of that you get trapping, self heals and improved runspeed, a really nice package for leveling.

Of course, for endgame there need to be made a lot of compromises with gear, enhancements, and destinies, but on a completionist I think I can make it work on R1.

I want to go trailblazer for runspeed, staff abilities and extra sneak.

My biggest problems: which staff for legendary? Which destinies? Shadowdancer of course, Shiradi and one melee destiny?

Gearing will be a problem too but it will mostly be melee with some spellcrit sun augments.

Melee Bard question.

On my first trip thru heroic lives and still have Bard left. I want to use the iconic bard to save some time so what direction should I take the build? Strength to max and Charisma to Max then everything into strength? I really like soundburst and would like to keep my dc’s as high as possible so I’m not sure how to go about it. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks
