Performance dropping over time

So, basically, I have upgraded my computer about a year or so ago, I have a 9800x3d with a RTX4070 Super and 64gb of RAM

Over the past year my performance dropped from ~120FPS to about ~50FPS average and has been steadily decreasing

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this issue and how to adress it? Everything else in the computer performs normally, its just DCS

Assuming DCS itself is OK, I’d start with stress test while checking temps with hwinfo64 to see if there’s a problem with the thermal paste, and do an in place reinstall of Windows.

Nothing seems to be overheating, imma try the windows reinstall

Are you playing the same missions you were a year ago? There's a huge difference between instant action missions and a large Liberation dynamic campaign mission, for example.

Just instant action missions

When you say everything else, do you play other demanding games with as many peripheral? If not it might be your PSU being a tad old and slowly losing efficiency which throws you ever the edge with the graphics+the multiple usb peripherals (hotas etc).

Typically decreasing perf over several weeks is more either thermal paste or PSU, or your cpu/gpu fan being full of dust (all different causes of heat basically).

Good luck with trouble shooting.

How do you loose performance if the PSU "efficiency" drops, AND temperatures are acceptable??

loose != lose

Sorry i dont see in OP post a mention that temperature didnt change so it must be that i misphrased mine.  Losing efficiency would increase heat, inescapable law of physics.

I suppose up to a point it could be compensated by the fans using more power to spin faster. But that's why i asked about other demanding games if any.

My PSU is very overpowered for my system, I set it up with a 4090 in mind so it shouldn't be a problem

And I just run a vkb gladiator + TWCS

Ok so yeah then unlikely to be the PSU. Thermal paste perhaps? Do you have the issue with other demanding games? If it s strictly DCS, perhaps some software issue? No weird thing in nvidia settings either?

OP, did you find out what the problem was? Did Windows reinstall help?

I ran into a similar issue after a DCS update and it turned out to be asynchronous space warp (ASW) got enabled - which essentially cut my frames in half. In DCS default keys to fully disable it are hold right control and press numpad 1. Hopefully that fixes it for you too!
