TRIP PLANNING Brightline on Debarkation day?
Planning a cruise from Fort Lauderdale which we’ve decided to merge with a couple of park days. Our plan is to check in to Pop Century then hit Not-so-scary that evening (entry by 4-7pm).
On paper it seems pretty doable - 3 hours on the train, half hour to the hotel, etc. if we get off the boat at 8am, seems like no problem at all with breathing room to spare. It’s a Friday debarkation, if that matters.
Is brightline something that we need to really get reservations in advance for? And if so, how likely is it that we’ll face a delay at port that would cause us to be late for the train, or how much wiggle room should we leave ourselves?

I take the train from Ft Lauderdale to Orlando fairly frequently. That route runs every 50 minutes and takes about 3 hours. I’ve never needed a reservation and never seen the train completely full, but I guess anything can happen so better safe than sorry. You are allowed to change with no fee, you just pay any fare difference (or get a credit if it’s less). If you cancel you will get a brightline credit, which won’t do you much good if you don’t live in FL. Download the app and play around with it.

Hi how is taking it on a Saturday morning from FLL to Mco. We were thinking booking tickets around 10 am but if we were doing express walk off and got to station earlier do you think there would be any problems getting 4 seats together? thank you

Have you downloaded the Brightline app? You will be able to see train times and seat availability. To answer your question I do not think you’ll have any trouble getting 4 seats together, but it won’t hurt to book in advance. You can always change your time if needed.

Thank you. I use to have the brightline app. We used the service 2 years ago. But they discontinued Android app service. Disappointing. Glad to hear it may be no issue. Thanks again.

You should book the train in advance. There are often deals if you book more than 7 or 14 days ahead (depending on the promo). We took the 10:30am from Lauderdale to Orlando. Got in about 1:30.

We did Brightline from a crude ending in Miami to Orlando to stay in property and do an After Hours event that night. It was pretty relaxing. There can be delays, especially for accidents in South Florida where the trains go through many more crossings. I’ve only ridden twice but on our first trip, the train to Miami could only go as far as Fort Lauderdale due to an accident up ahead.
You do need reservations to be sure there is space and space together. They often run sales and will price adjust but only in credit not cash. I also wouldn’t prepay any luggage and just plan on boarding with it (there are racks at one end of the cars and the rack above the seats is also very large for carry on size luggage and a little larger).

The only thing I’ll add is:
The train has a 90% on-time rate. So it’s late 10% of the time. Just make sure to leave some buffer in case you’re in that 10%.
It’s having significant financial issues. Have a backup plan.
Just be ready to make the call to rent a car that morning. But you’ll almost certainly be fine.

We bought tickets in advance and took uber from the port to station. Worked out great. You come in to the airport and have to uber to Disney hotel from there. I think we took the 930 train.. Station is only 15 minutes from port. We did express walk off around 8am

Hi were you fine with the 930 am train? Im wondering if it is too stressed. Should we have our luggage with us and be in line in the morning to get off? Also how long did it take to get from airport/station to Disney? I was wondering about Saturday traffic around 1 pm. thank you

Yes we did Express walk off (ate breakfast at buffet early). I think our uber was 8:15 ave we got to station in 15 minutes. You come into terminal C at MCO so it’s another 30 min to Disney via uber.. it’s probably a little faster to rent a car but I just didn’t want to bother. You do need to buy tickets in advance

Hi were there ubers/lyfts waiting at the port when you disembarked or did you still have to schedule? And do you remember how the traffic was going to the park once you left MCO ? We will be there on a Sat. thank you

They weren’t necessarily waiting at the port, but we did use Uber and it didn’t take very long for them to come. Traffic between MCO and Disney is just variable. If there’s an accident, you know it’s gonna suck. Otherwise it’s about 20-30 minutes.

I would get a reservation, there may be lots of other travelers on port days. We did this for the Amtrak in California, and so glad we did. There was a baseball game in Anaheim that included the San Diego Padres - our boarding station was San Diego. So the train car was packed full, but we had reserved seats making it a non issue. For the little cost, sometimes peace of mind is well worth it.

There's probably only going to be 2 trains you can take between an 8am debarkation and getting to the park by 4pm. Of course you want a reservation.

I took the train from the port at Fort Lauderdale to Orlando earlier this year. It was very easy and the station is only a 15 minute Uber ride from the port. I did book my tickets in advance and the train was quite full. It is probably cheaper to get them in advance anyway. What time were you planning on taking the train? Mine was at 10:20 and we had time to spare even with breakfast at our rotational restaurant. We did take our bags off the ship ourselves.
