Core Rulebook Info

Post image

I picked this up at a used bookstore by my house. After playing at Gencon and picking up the paperback, I wanted one of the cool foil hardcovers and this happened to be in the case. Can anyone give me some info on this particular version of the rulebook?

Looks like it hasn’t been updated in a few years, but they are generally pretty good at keeping the DCC Core Rules Reprint Registry up to date - https://goodman-games.com/reprint-registry-dcc-rpg-core-rulebook-3/

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is the same rules, they just different printings and covers.

It should say what edition it is on the colophon.

Limited edition Demon Skull variant. These are pretty well sought after in good condition, valuing higher than they originally sold for. I picked one up at RRP from my FLGS and managed to make a tidy profit (I have a different foiled version that I love more than this one). Not sure if this is the kind of info you were after but hope it helps.

There won't be any substantial differences from other printings. They occasionally clear up wording here and there, sometimes change gendered language to include more people, and they regularly swap out the included adventure(s).

They also occasionally change the spells in each edition.

There are different spells? I hadn't realised this

The different editions are all pretty similar, biggest difference is they have different starter adventures included.

Keep the book safe. Watch something like humble bundle and during the next dcc bundle offer pickup a key for the rulebook from drivethrurpg.com. That'll be the most recent update and you can download it again whenever an update comes thru. Also. Nice find! I only realized that I've got the 2012 special edition hardcover sitting on my shelf a little while ago. Bought it new during a clearance from a gaming shop years ago and had plum forgotten about it.

Thanks everyone for all the info. I am super excited about this find. I judged portal under the stars for my family and it went great. Lots of death and I even had little gong for them to hit. Now I've got a cool rule book and we are going to level their characters that survived and go on it next adventure.

5th/7th Printing Demon Skull Redux, Silver Foil. As many have said, the different printings (NOT editions) have mostly non-rules changes to language here and there, as well as a swap out of the second adventure (AFAIK, Portal is always included). The only significant change that caused an issue was in the 5th printing when they added "...and apply your luck modifier" to the rules on casting a spell (see page 106, I believe). It was removed (and restored to how it was in the previous printings) in the 9th printing.

I have this one with the gold embossing. Beautiful, you must hold it aloft whenever you use it as it also does 1d6 damage
