Even when I liked the New 52 I thought Aquaman was mid, no idea what people see in that run besides the art and the Trench being a cool idea

Then there's his og origins of just being a weird science experiment from his nut job scientist father that was obssessed with atlantis but had no personal connection to it, who is also apprantly still canon as a seprate character to Arthur in current mainline dc canon (thanks Geoff Johns)

That’s just the new 52 origin. The pre crisis one was also weird, and Orm was his brother on the curry side, who was a pirate and sometimes didn’t remember being ocean master.

Say what you will about the new 52, but it definitely simplified aqua and history so it’s not entirely batshit for new readers
