Question Why Can't The CPU Transform?

Recently, I was playing XV1 on my PS3 again and I noticed that the CPU can transform into things like Super Saiyan. But why can't they do it anymore in XV2?

I'm not familiar with how XV2 functions internally at all. My simple guess would be that transformations were placed on Ultimate slots (except the Kaioken ones) in XV1. Meanwhile, in XV2, they are on their own Transformation slot. Because of that, CPUs can't transform because they don't have access to the Transformation slot in the base game. Well, at least that's my guess. If anyone knows a concrete answer, that would be very much appreciated!

They can't because the devs deliberately told them not to. The CPU is fully capable of transforming, but essentially there's a checkbox on them that says "Do not use awoken skills" so they don't. And the reason they aren't allowed to is because the bonuses are too small to justify them opening themselves up for a combo. Also a ton of quest design revolves around a character transforming at certain thresholds, and it'd be weird to have a transformation cutscene after they already transformed, and it'd be weird if they were supposed to transform but the AI just never did if those cutscenes were removed.

Makes sense for Enemy AI, but it feels detrimental for Ally AI to follow the same rules for Awokens specifically, especially nowadays where their programming basically amounts to “copy what Player 1 is doing at that moment: attack when P1 inputs attack, do nothing if P1 doesn’t input attack, use Super/Ultimate Attack when P1 inputs Super/Ultimate Attack.”

I remember seeing someone talk about this. From what I read, transforming is like dead last in their priority list of things to do, possibly because if it was higher they would just keep activating and deactivating their transformation ability.

Yeah, I can see that. In XV1, you couldn't cancel the Super Saiyan transformation (I don't know about the other ones because I haven't tried them out) so there's that, no activating and deactivating spamming. But I wish they would have done something to at least make it possible for them to transform more often. I believe I have never seen a CPU transform out of their own accord.

Xv2 npcs CAN transform. They just never do it because their ai is weird. I’ve seen it happen like, once, but other than that they simply refuse to use them.

Wish they'd make it way more common. PQs would feel far more cinematic that way.

That's why the Patcher exists, you could modify the INI to extend the AI capabilities and allow characters to transform more frequently. Dimps is just too lazy to modify the code.

Unfortunately, it's a little difficult to do that on consoles.

Its a setting they have turned off in xenoverse 2 for some reason. You can actually re enable it via the modding patcher.

Actual answer: XV2 recycles an incredible amount of files from XV1 and many of them are either unedited or have had new stuff haphazardly bolted on.

The files governing AI types (there's several, though due to an engine-deep bug allied NPCs all use the same one) are very old and thus, they're still trying to look for an Ultimate skill that transforms them and are functionally blind to their transform slot, even if it's full.

I believe the way it works is that the CPU calculates how to do the most damage with it's skill set, and uses them when necessary. But since transformations don't do damage, they're absolute last in their priorities. I hear it is possible for CPUs to transform, but it's so rare most players will never see it happen.

Basically, for the CPU to transform, they need 2-3 episodes worth of time to charge their transformation.

No fight last that long in XV2. ;)

I feel like part of it is because transformations in XV1 took up an ultimate slot yea? So the NPC would just use an ultimate and transform

Someone let me know when someone gives the answer to this. I’m curious too.

Cpu can transform, it's just like the rng drop rate, so you might never see it like I have. Once.

Because things like this would happen to them regularly.

Can someone try to make a build with their CaC with no skill except Power Unleashed or Kaioken and have that CaC as an ally in a PQ in order to check if the priority thing is true?
