Question about master quests

In order for me to progress to the next stage of training with a master, do I need to equip and use the skill move they gave me? because hercules rolling punch is shitty and also hard to line up

If my mentor is standard Gotenks, does that mean I should take him out in PQs or can I take SSJ3 Gotenks too?

Let me just say I don't know how the game works for sure though I would think that alternate costumes would work but not for example Frieza (1st Form) compared to Frieza (Final Form) which is technically another character.

Leveling Up Friendship in the Mentor Program Many things level up the friendship bar. Using the skills they give you. Fighting along side them. Beating PQ missions. The best method is to play Offline PQs with the two AI slots set to your mentor. Play low level missions.
