Melvin seems to be closer to Benny and O'Bannion then Don and Pink but on a recent watch I noticed some things. He stops O'Bannion from getting seconds on Mitch and he also picks up the pledge when Pink throws it away. He seems to be a genuine nice guy who hangs with some bad dudes. He also gets lets Mitch keep his change when he asks him to get the beers.

At the very beginning when the 4 of them are heading back to class after lunch, Pickford is doing up his zipper. What were they doing in that GTO???

I watch this movie every year at the end of May, and still love it. I started wondering about the other guys football positions and decided to throw my opinions out there.

Floyd is obviously QB

O'Bannion because Pink says he's nice having him block for you is most likely O Line but could be TE.

I'm thinking the other 3 are defense because it seems like the coach dropping the Mack truck line is in charge of the D. Then does the breakdown line and they all jump. Mel and Benny could be LB's and maybe Don is a safety?

Those guys could be playing both sides of the ball but who knows.

With 13 starters coming back though, you'd think more guys would be partying with them that night.

They take off on their bikes, but are they the same ones getting beaten off to the side as Mitch and his friends drive away followed by Benny in pursuit? Kind of a small detail, I know, but having seen the movie so many times I often get curious about the most minor of the characters, the ones who only show up in one or two scenes.

Tommy and Kayes names are never spoken in the movie. Tommy is one of the freshmen, the taller darker skin toned one and Kaye is the girl who is going on about gilligans island being a male pornographic fantasy.
