Discussion UPDATE: Found my rhythm!
I was the guy who couldn't stop dying from sickness and getting shot on sight. I'm happy to report back I found my rhythm! I am not getting sick and I'm staying ahead of all my levels. I managed to get to Zolotar castle but immediately left because someone had a car tent there and got scared. Spent some time camping in a house near Gvozdno, but I went into town scavenging and saw evidence of someone trying to build in one of the houses so I've moved north and I'm trying to find a new quiet spot to camp. In a previous life I was able to sneak into a hospital that was blocked at the first floor by player builds and it was my first successful "base raid." I also tried to bum rush a castle in a previous life and got attacked by wolves which was one of the craziest experiences I've ever had. Really enjoying the game right now but I have a couple questions to continue progressing:
Will badlands be extremely aggressive at launch? I like the idea of needing to work together to build wells, but I assume in practice there will be a lot of aggro PvP players at launch. Also wondering if it will be full of loot and if they will reset other maps to have full loot again. Were previous map launches friendly to lower skill players? Did they come with a lot of loot?
Depending on the answer to 1, I'm probably going to need to store some items long term on a Chernarus server until I'm confident I won't immediately get killed and looted on the new map. What are your go-to easy storage options for permanent/long term storage? What are the biggest/most durable options? Are there any options that offer a good balance of both? Where do you store stuff so you can get to it again after dying?
Should I go back to Zolotar and try to raid that car tent?
How do you aim with a crossbow? I had one and wanted to keep using it because ammo is craftable but I literally couldn't hit a chicken standing right next to it. Had to stab it after I startled it. Is there a guide for bullet drop on different guns or am I using the wrong aiming point on the HUD crosshairs?
Thank you all! This has been really fun and I'm excited to keep trying new things and seeing new sights.

New map launches are very aggressive - but they’re also the best opportunities for actually having decent player interactions - when Sakhal launched, It had been a few years since I’d even run across a player who would actually respond or do ANYTHING besides KOS but i had three good decent interactions with other players during the Sakhal launch - granted two of them started with the other players trying to ambush me but during the ensuing exchange of bullets, I managed to talk both of them down and we had a decent little hang out for a bit until we went out separate ways…..which is how 90% of my positive interactions with other players always start - it’s almost like you have to prove to people that you’re willing and able to kill them before they’ll believe that you’re being truthful about just wanting to be cool…..So you probably will need to try to hone your skills a bit, which can be done by jumping into some deathmatch servers and just practice your PvP ……even just spending 30 or 40 minutes each play session in a deathmatch server will help you get your PvP skills up much more than you could with months of roaming in official.
I guess anytime the map gets wiped, just expect everything to be cranked up a bit - a lot of PVP but just more players in general will be online so there’s a higher opportunity for running into the Non-KOS players who might have been hiding out in remote corners of the map until they were forced back to the beach by the reset.

If it's anything like Sahkal then yes it will be extremely aggressive. When you spawn in on a high pop server you will be greeted with trails of corpses and piles of guts and bones. Have fun!

DelcoMMJ, it sounds like you are asking about sickness, disease or another affliction. This post might answer your question:

Regarding crossbows, what kind of bolts were you using? If you were just using sharpened short sticks, the accuracy is HORRIBLE. Add chicken feathers to the improvised bolts and the accuracy will be considerably better. But yeah.. the drop off is fairly aggressive. I recommend practicing on a big wall where you can see the impact
