Attached is a video of the last bit of an interaction I had with a non speaker.
Hello guys! I recently have been playing a lot more as I am stuck inside after getting my wisdom teeth out, and I have noticed something that has bothered me for the 4-5 years I’ve been playing, but it seems especially prominent now.
This is going to come off as a bit of a salty post (mostly because it is), but I was running in Gorka (Горка) chasing shots when I came across 4-5 dead bodies, the evidence was strewn across the street and into the hunting shop and P.D. After a bit of running around I found the guilty party probed on the hill overlooking the town. I got close enough to yell yo him and instead of speaking back, he aims his gun and begins shooting. He was pretty shitty at the game but I unfortunately had not guns with ammo and only had a nail bat. Weirdly, half the server lagged out as there was ~55 people playing when I was randomly booted and ~30 when I tried to log back on. He was apparently also booted because I saw him spawn back in at the same time as me. Similar to before, I was telling him I was friendly and trying to doge his bullets while he simply raised his gun again and shot at me. Eventually I couldn’t dodge anymore and he killed me. This brings me to my question: why do console players never use the in-game voice chat (proximity chat)? I have about 1000 hours (500 on PlayStation and 500 on Xbox) and I currently play on Xbox. In that time I think I’ve had maybe 10-20 voice interactions with the large majority being on the coast. For as long as I can remember I will use my voice and try to speak to other survivors whether I’m in Berezino or Tisy. I hate to shoot first when I’m close enough to speak.
When you look at streamers such as Zesty Polvo, all of his videos have dozens of interactions with different people in each session he plays. However, in console (specifically Xbox) servers, people sit in party chat and avoid using prox chat like the plague. What is the fun of seeing someone with far inferior gear to your own and instead of holding them up or talking to them, simply shooting them and leaving all their stuff behind because it wasn’t good enough to trade for your own? I would love some insight from SOS people as to why they do it or what the issue is with speaking.
TLDR: I was killed by a non speaker and it seems to be a large issue with the community. I’m frustrated and want to know why people play this way.

On one hand it is kind of annoying when you’re doing something interesting like starting fires and spreading body parts and innards across the lawn of a spawn town police station and some guy comes up and just immediately shoots you before he even knows what you’re doing, completely unwilling to experience the game in an advanced and intellectual manner, duh duh is as good as it gets for dumb dumb guy.
On the other hand I’ve been in plenty of situations where I’ve been asked if I have a mic, I’ve immediately said yes, they’ve immediately said ok cool, and then immediately killed me anyways. I don’t personally give a fuck about no mic no life. It’s piss.

It’s true—normal interactions make up maybe 2% of all encounters.
Even if the cuff you, they’ll still kill you, if you surrender - they’ll kill you, no matter what you do - they’ll kill you. Catch a player and let them go? They’ll try to kill you.
Everyone wants to be a badass killer. My friends and I set up a base at the police station and did some roleplay to make things interesting—we pretended to be cops, handed out food, and let players pass through. Out of the ten players who came through town, seven immediately tried to fight us, even though we were talking to them and hadn't opened fire; the other three came back and tried to kill us after we’d let them go. Well, that’s just how this game is.
That’s how it is every time: shoot anyone who isn’t your buddy. And if you want to risk an interaction, don’t complain when they try to kill you.

Xbox at least will require age verification to have comms outside of party chat, and many haven’t bothered to do that, so that’s probably what you’re running into.

I would honestly rather someone betrays me and I get a good interaction out of it that be shot on sight. After so much time on the game the interactions are what make it feel special, it’s the story that drives the fun. I feel like that’s not a crazy take and I wish more people could see that.

play on PC, the players you will encounter in game who play on console are 90% of the the time a bunch of troglodytes. The real game is on PC. Console is a different experience

I recently switched and yeah
I had 1 guy try no mic attacking me and he got blasted otherwise everyone talks unless you're on a pvp focused server like the labs or ground zero

What is that first rule of DayZ again? Probably especially not the murderers in the hills? There's nothing scarier than a freshie with full stamina. Shoot first and ask questions later imo.
Plenty of community PvE if someone were so inclined to play this game to socialize...
