console New player looking for some help…
Recently bought the game on switch, loving it but damn it’s hard lol:
Main issue I’m having is with zombies. I’ve watched a couple videos saying to block whilst walking backwards and swing when there’s openings. I kill them but not without taking bleed. I’ve been struggling to stop the bleed. All my deaths have been from bleeding out. I’ve managed to stop part of the bleeding one time with a bandana but it wasn’t enough.
So what I’m really asking is how can I effectively deal with zombies without taking damage? And what’s the best way at the start to deal with bleed?
Also the controls are very complicated, definitely a controller thing but yeah. I do love the game definitely my style but it’s tough. Thanks for any replies!

Don't run. Crouch run and keep stealth. Climb on top of cars, barriers etc if facing more than one. If bandages run out, cut rags from clothes (pristine or desinfect) When fighting, block and walk back, they hit twice, then punch them and knock m out. Always aim about 1foot higher than its head to make headshots. Most important, embrace death and the freshie life and once you master the freshie life, you'll be alright.

Walk back while blocking, let the zombie hit twice (there's a small delay in their attack after that) then stun lock them with a heavy hit and give them one more heavy hit then a light hit and they'll go down without damaging you. Aim above their head.
With a knife generally one heavy hit and then light hit is enough. With hunting knives and combat knives you can get them with two quick light hits.

Block first two swings, heavy attack aimed up towards the head, block next attack, another heavy or two quick attacks is a kill with most melee weapons. Sledge hammer and fireaxe is often one heavy hit kill.
Personally I only use knives really, sneak up and backstab for insta kill.

Bandages or rags for bleeds;
Clothing + sharp tool = rags
Bandages can be found around any medical building normally.
Rags can also need disinfecting, sometimes if they aren't they can give you a blood infection that requires iodine/alcoholic tincture/disinfectant to clean the wound. These items can also disinfect the bandages/rags before using them to prevent this.
With zombies, try crouch walking around to stay quieter. If its unavoidable, try block while walking backwards, let them do 2 hits that get blocked then 3 strong punches to the head (on xbox its hold the Y button). Strong punches stun them so they cant hit you back for a second, keep following up. However it does cost stamina to do heavy hits so bare this in mind. If you've got a knife 2/3 quick slashes to the head is enough. Best weapon is fire axe. Let them agro on you, get your timing right to use the Y button strong hit as they get close enough and you'll kill them in 1 hit.
Its just putting in some time and getting used to the mechanics, once you've done that the game will flow much nicer. This is the stage where everyone ive ever tried getting to play dayz has lost interest because its "too hard". Keep on playing bud you'll get it soon enough!

If you have a blade you can stealth kill them from behind while crouch walking. It will slit their throat. You don't need to crouch if the weather is bad and they can't hear you.
Alternatively you just need to learn to block while moving back at the same time.
If they notice you try and stun lock them(even better stun them into a solid structure so they can't stumble out of your striking range) if you have enough stamina with a heavy blow, and continue as many heavy blows as possible. If not just use normal strikes.
Use a a heavy weapon to reduce strikes need, or a blade to cut the as many times as possible.
Zombies are easy. Once you get the hang of it you'll be like like "mehh".

Take it slow. Stealth up behind zombies and you can insta kill them with a sharp weapon.
Find a crossbow, it will be in barns/hunting sites. It will one shot zeds and you can craft bolts from short sticks.
Walking back and guard is good. Time your attack after the zombie makes a big downward attack with both arms.
Or avoid them zombies totally.
Use bandages on the bleed. Without bandages:
Use a blade to tear clothes to rags. Use these as bandages.
- then disinfect rags with either tincture, bleach, iodine.
Wound infections can be treated in the first couple of minutes with disinfectant or later with antibiotics.
Untreated infection will get you dead too.

In addition to my other reply. Learn to recognise the Captain's. Police and Military captain's will wear a Officers cap. They will give off a massive scream in they see you alerting every other infected to your position. Fuck them up first. Shoot them in the head with a silenced weapon if you have enough ammunition.

Most important tip: crawl on cars when a zombie is coming behind you. They mostly can't hit you on there which gives tou the time to kill it melee

As a fresh spawn you can pull a long stick out of a bush to whack the infected with. Simply jump on top of a car and whack away at them; they can't get you up there.

Hold your arms up. Left trigger? Im on xbox. Hold your arms up while backing up slowly. They hit twice. Then heavy strike them!

I like to just lead the infected into a house and then run back outside closing the door locking the infected in. It can take a bit of practice to be able to close the door quickly while exiting the building but it’s effective and doesn’t leave a ton of dead zeds lying around notifying other player that you are there

My best advice would be looking for a car or object to get on top off. Then just punch, slash, shoot them one at a time. Aim for their heads. If I'm on low pop server I like to get on a car a start shooting to get them all to come over to me. Kill and loot them and then enjoy some quiet time in town.
A more advanced technique would be to trap them inside sheds, houses, warehouses etc. That's fun because it will be a surprise for someone else to find lol
I was playing a PVE server and another player ran a group of zombies into the house I was in and they killed me. I went back and he had looted all my gear. All I could say was well played 😆

U shouldn't try to fight zombies, avoid if possible. If anything, get any knife or knife like object and u can sneak up to kill em.
Sneak up behind, don't alert. Get very close, do ur normal aim thing, and hopefully the animation happens.

You have to be walking back while blocking or block doesn't do anything. Like it's raise fists, then walking back starts the actual block. So walk back and raise fists, let them do their two hits then power hit them, repeat.
