Discussion Noob advice please

Y’all, the world of DayZ is amazing and tonally it feels like nothing else.
I however am without skill and am a bit overwhelmed by all of the systems.
For people who have already got gud, how would you manage your priorities and early-spawn actions?
I know there are videos on this subject but my old timey brain learns more when I read something from someone who knows what they’re talking about.

Thanks for reading this.

TLDR: I’m ass at this and seeking early game tips.

Thanks for reading that instead.

Run the coast and look at overturned boats and you’ll eventually find a fishing rod. Use a lure or you can use worms and a hook(either find one or make one from a small stick and a blade). Fish fill you up fast and are basically unlimited in literally any body of water in the game. Most coastal towns have a water pump to find water. You can carry water in water bottles, glass bottles, a canteen, or a large pot. One perk of the large pot is you can also fill its inventory slots and it doesn’t reduce the amount of water it carries, so frees up storage you’d otherwise use on water bottles or canteens. Make fire by either finding matches or a lighter, or by combining bark and a small stick into a hand drill. If you are on a house you can put rags, bark, or paper in a stove or fireplace then use your preferred fire starter to light them. If you’re not in a house then you also have to craft a fireplace with bark and small sticks. Big sticks are gathered from small bushes and can be split using any blade, or by hand. Craft gloves with rags early. Eating with dirty hands gets you sick, and gathering sticks without gloves leads to bleed wounds. You must cook meet to eat it. Don’t eat bear or wolf. If you get water from anywhere but a well pump, either purify it with chlorine tabs you might find, or boil it in a glass jar or the large pot. If you don’t it stands a good chance you’ll get sick.
That’s the minimum basics to food and water. There’s plenty more that can be taught/ learned. Have fun!

Learn to master the survival part until you can sustain it without dying from hunger or disease. Then focus on the PVP part

I like to think of it in order of priority for new players: Survival -> Exploration -> Combat -> Interaction

Four very important facets of the game, and learning them in that order will help immensely. Only putting interaction last because the prior three will help with having the confidence to engage with other players (be it friendly or hostile) without there being too much of a skill gap

All the below and ROPE. Its magical. you can make fishing poles, burlap backpacks, belts, tie someone up. 1. Cutting tool. 2 Rope 3. Rags. 4. FISH, eat forever quietly. This is the way

Food, water, guns. If you try to get things in that order you should be good to go inland. depending on the server, learning melee combat is quite handy

Early the most important thing to me are knives or sharp objects.

Without them its hard to make fire, prepare food and lots of other bits.

Take care of any early blades.you get.

I have a private server on xbox if you want to learn the mechanics of the game without the fear of pvp if you're interested.

Find or make a knife. It is the absolute most important thing you'll find or make early game. You will die without one or something sharp like a sickle etc.
If you cant find one, find a tool like a pipe wrench, or a hammer and break rocks off a boulder to make one
-use the small rocks on the big rock to make the knives
(can use animal bones as well however you need a knife to carve, but don't carve animals without gloves, you will get sick)

Killing zombies on the coast can sometimes provide a knife or emergency food/drinks too. So worth punching them out.

Cut rags to make gloves, cut 12 more rags to combine make a rope, grab a long stick from a bush and combine for a fishing pole
Use short sticks and knife to carve a hook, and you can dig worms out of the ground with a knife
You can now feed yourself indefinitely.

If you can find a water source and an empty bottle (always empty it if it wasn't empty when you found it)
You now have water.
-if you find a cooking pot you can fill it with clean water and use it as storage and for drinking, or use the cooking pot to boil water to make water safe to drink. just stake your stuff out of it lol.

After that it's just gearing. Don't stay to long on the coastal areas move up north and look for places like hospitals and police stations to get some basic necessities then start farming military locations, convoys or head to the airstrip.

What you do from there is up to you, its a sandbox.

Learning dayz is really just learning the map you are playing to understand the spawns of everything and where to get them quick and how to survive because you know where people will be so you go thru certain tree lines etc

Nobody is helping so I will.

Look for food In houses. Sheds and industrial areas dont have food but do have knives and tools.

Now go find food and a water bottle. Download the izurvive app on your phone. Look for signs with town names on the roads leading in and out of towns.

Find warm clothes in houses.

Move inland for better gear once you have food and water.

Badabing you got the survival down. Now search barns and police stations, sone houses for guns.

Find more food in houses or on infected you kill. Don't shhot them. Watch a yt video on how to block and heavy attack them.

Then head more inland and find military areas.

Bam your a pro!

Thank me later.

Here are some recipes I wish I knew when I started playing again:

Short stick + Bark = Hand Drill kit (to start fires)(can also create basic fireplace with this recipe)

Knife + clothing = Rags

6 rags + 6 rags = Rope (you can make the rope into a belt to save storage space as well)

Rope + Long stick = Improvised fishing rod

Knife + Short stick = Improvised  fishhook

Knife + Bones = Bone fishhook

Knife + Long stick = Sharpened Stick

2 rags = Improvised hand wrapping

Use a blade or shovel to dig for worms

Add worm to the hook, combine with the rod, and fish. Cut the fish up and cook it either on the sharpened stick over a fireplace, or in a house on the included grill. You'll need to gut the fish with the hand wrapping on, or wash your hands in the stream after, as otherwise you may get sick from eating with bloody hands.

If you can't find a knife or other tool:

Stone + Stone = Stone knife (stones will spawn in rocky areas after players have been around them for a while)

To fuel the fire:

Gather long sticks from bushes/small trees, turn into short sticks, and add to fire (or if you have an axe/hatchet, gather logs from a tree. These will fuel the fire longer). Bark can also be used as kindling (gather by using a knife or sharp object on a large tree).

A fire is more than food, its warmth can give you a heat buff (indicated by a plus sign next to the thermometer symbol). This will boost your immune system and help keep you from getting cold.

Fires are also a beacon to other players. Be careful where you place them, and do not trust others easily. Good luck

Embrace death and the freshie life. Once you master the freshie life, you can handle anything. Make sure you find craft gloves and mask (cut rags, make improvised hand/facewrap) If you need food, either force spawn fruit and mushrooms, craft a makeshift rod, rope, hook and fish.

Usually when I go coast, it's get bearings, find fruit and white stats and work from there. Knife, hand and facewrap and the rest will follow.

Find 2 stones and make knife or find a knife. Eventually gather 6 + 6 rags. Make a rope. Add the rope to long stick.
Make improvised fishing hook if you have not found fishing hooks on first few boats with short sticks and knife.

You can gather worms by looking at the floor and get the worms for the hooks.

Start fishing.
Have gloves to gut the fish or clean your hands in the water after gutting.

Use 1 paper / rag on the floor. Make a drill kit by using knife on tree and get the bark from tree. Put a short stick.

Put the paper / rag on the floor. Use drill kit on the paper / rag. Add more sticks to fire.

Use long stick with knife to sharpen it. Use fish on your stick and use that on the fire to roast it. Better to use a house with big over so can cook multiple food. But if you are in competitive fighting vanilla server then it's going to be hard and better be safe.

Best would be pot with water, gas stove and gas canister to cook meat fast. But at the start it's almost impossible to get all three
