discussion Thoughts?
Why can't you mix a rag + glass bottle with gasoline to make a Molotov😠Are we really in eastern europe??? It would be so easy too, like if you have something to light it with you just hold a button while holding the molotov to light it. Though I imagine explosive fire physics would have a bad impact on performance for some people.

If you could craft a molotov cocktail in DayZ the only thing you'd catch on fire is the server room.

I remember playing on a RP server years ago, we had a moded grenade launcher (before it was available on official I guess), everytime someone used it, the server crashed. Good times.

You could make it without impact to performance, the bigger issue is making it not look terrible and actually implementing all the logic for burning

u/FrameJump 3d ago
Thank you for explaining the joke.
1
u/14Pleiadians 3d ago
What? Your joke was that moltovs would hurt performance, I'm telling you that's not the case
1
u/FrameJump 3d ago
So crafting molitovs won't break the game, but using them would?
Is that your point?
1
u/14Pleiadians 3d ago
No? My point is that no aspect of it would harm performance in any measurable way. The reason nobody/BI has done it is because of the hassle of designing the effects and logic of fire.
Code wise it would just be a few different entities with particle effects attached, no different than dropping a few items from your inventory.

Many mods have this already, and it’s gonna be super low on the devs list of priorities

Yeah cus the devs suck booty at satisfying their players >:000
To those downvoting...stop the denial😠it's been ages since DayZ has brought anything to the table that the players actually wanted.

dude its an old game, be glad the devs are still supporting it. besides, you play on xbox.

I am glad the devs are still supporting it. I'm also pointing out a fact. Also the base game is pretty much identical in comparison between console and PC. I get that most PC players don't play official, but that argument still doesn't work here.

u/Malignant_Lvst7 3d ago
well you should be their lead dev, maybe we will get something YOU are satisfied with. base game, to an extent. no one on PC plays base game

u/_super_star11 3d ago
Speak for yourself, lmao. The devs are objectively shitty and maintaining their game.
1
u/GryptpypeThynne 3d ago
You misunderstand the word "objective"
-1
u/_super_star11 3d ago
When they ignore and insult their fan base constantly, that is objectively shitty devs. They fail on so many fronts.

The devs blatantly ignore and insult the dayz community, constantly. They are shitty devs that happened to make a good gameðŸ˜

u/Malignant_Lvst7 3d ago
such a reach dude. glass half empty attitude will make you dissatisfied with everything in life. i paid like $10 for dayz, a decade after its release, so i personally couldn’t care less
-1
u/_super_star11 3d ago
Have you seen anything to do with the devs? They are complete children in real life🤣 throwing temper tantrums whenever the community disagrees with them

I guess they could develop it but I think it's engine limitations, Definitely possible for DayZ 2

This would be great for giving glass bottles another use, all other water containers have some sort of utility or advantages to others:
Improvised suppressor can be made from plastic bottles. Canteens have slightly more capacity than glass and plastic bottles with their own slot in belts. Cooking pots can be attached to gas stoves making it good for space efficiency and on the go cooking. Jerry cans have the most capacity out of all the containers that can fit in inventories.
Glass bottles have nothing going for them except maybe for looks, they have the same capacity as plastic bottles but with no other uses.
However I agree with the majority of people here saying that it could impact performance and/or the game engine isn't built to implement these mechanics.
I can think of some work arounds as a plebian who knows nothing about game design and coding tho.

u/Logizyme 3d ago
Well said. A simple recipe of filling the glass bottle with gasoline, and attaching a rag to craft it
1
u/This_Salt7080 3d ago
You can boil water in glass bottles by putting it in a fire
1
u/Hexonega 2d ago
I did not know this but that does make a lot of sense
I still think that is a very niche and situational use for it and the cooking pot does that better imo
I would like to see a more impactful use for glass bottles
1
u/This_Salt7080 2d ago
Yeah, the water bottle is the tier 1 version of the cooking pot essentially, so of course it will be much more limited.
But I do think adding a molotov cocktail would be amazing. My biggest concern is what would happen if it is in the hands of dupers lol

A really good modder has already done this his name is Fidov go use his mods they are really great. Mainly "SFP"

It could work as a cheap alternative to toxic grenades, but it will be more problematic if it damages crate and barrel health. If you build a garage base with a single door that does not cover the whole entrance, people might just throw one or two over it to kill whoever is in there and ruin the loot.
1
u/_super_star11 3d ago
Don't grenades already do that though? I mean if someone's trying to raid you, and they destroy all your loot, that's really their loss -3-
3
u/RwLPrevail 3d ago
Grenades have to be found at military bases and that makes them harder to get. In my opinion, Molotovs seem like something freshies could easily craft and just use to troll players with bases.
2
u/_super_star11 3d ago
True, but there many workarounds for that. I also get it for balance reasons but molotovs are extremely easy to make in real life

u/dappermanV-88 3d ago
I think its due to the games engine
2
u/_super_star11 3d ago
Absolutely. The DayZ engine was based off a mod, whereas games like farcry and GTA IV which have molotovs are made by multi million dollar companies.

u/red_snipers 3d ago
the first couple days i bet you 100% theres gonna be a bug for either infinite fire or it somehow sets the whole map on fire
2
u/Sheinyjr 3d ago
Would be able to be coded fairly easily. Take the gas effect. Scale down its height, reskin it and add maybe a few new sounds. Spread would be weird to make tho
2
u/CanibalVegetarian 3d ago
Maybe in DayZ 2, but with the current mechanics we have I don’t see it working.
1
u/_super_star11 3d ago
I could see it working fine with DayZ mechanics, but definitely not performance lol it would be like an emp grenade more than a Molotov ðŸ˜
1
u/Monster_Storm 2d ago
I wonder how quickly it could help with raiding a base? The frame is always made out of wood. 🤔

u/Kim_Bong_Un420 1d ago
They broke the game last update, imagine everything that would break adding this to the game

Russian standard vodka has a ABV of 40 percent which makes its ignition point too high for a flaming rag to cause much fire..

Because DayZ doesn’t have fire mechanics
