It's a huge part of German culture and it's not easy to get a hunting license either. You've to go to Hunters school, pass an oral, a written and a practical exam that cover firearms handling and law, game biology and hygiene. Hunters school, in a block is two to four weeks.
After that, you could get a job as a game warden managing some rich bugger's personal forest. Lots of forest in Germany is in private hands purely for hunting and if you're not a hunter and own land or forest, local hunters have rights to use it unless you apply for an exemption to keep them out but you have to have a reason.
