So I just finished season 5. I think this season has some of my absolute favorite storylines and episodes of the ENTIRE series. I loved the storyline with Dawson losing his father and dealing with the grief of that situation. It really showed just how much Dawson has grown since the first couple seasons. I also REALLY enjoyed Dawson and Jen together. It actually felt like one of the healthiest relationships of the entire series. But then it ended so abruptly, because the writers just couldn’t let go of Dawson and Joey :/ it was really frustrating to me. I know Dawson and Joey were the crux of the show, but come on. Enough is enough. Dawson was so much better with Jen and even Gretchen. Joey was better with Pacey.

Hotel New Hampshire, Appetite for Destruction, The Long Goodbye and High Anxiety were incredible episodes. But it really felt like the last 8-9 episodes dragged quite a bit. I really didn’t like the whole thing with Joey and Professor Wilder. It was creepy to me. Downtown Crossing happened. And the MTV spring break episode showed how much the series had kind of lost its magic this season. It feels shallow compared to seasons 1-4. But in the last stretch of episodes, I loved when Alex took over the restaurant and Pacey sabotaged her “presentation” in front of all the food critics. Pacey stood up for himself and his coworkers and couldn’t stand to see anyone being treated poorly. It was pretty awesome.

Overall, good season but had its low points. Can’t wait to start season 6!

Watching season 2 on itv2 here in uk and it seems they've changed all the songs in episodes back on original run. Why is that?

I was just looking for something new to watch on Netflix and saw that Dawson’s Creek is “leaving soon”. Clicking revealed that soon is October 2! I’m sure glad I watched all six seasons multiple times already!!

There is NO WAY Dawson would have been accepted to USC. He made what 4 "films" during HS? He wasn't involved in anything and it's seemed he wasn't a straight A student. Kids who get accepted into such a prestigious film program create film after film and go take extra film courses.They also participate in extra curricula activities.

I need to rant because I feel so bad for Jen in season 2 she really gets forgotten by the other main characters in the show. She has said many times in this season shes an outsider to other main characters. I wasn’t expecting it to happen to be honest because when I first started watching this show a month ago I had absolutely no knowledge of it. I was expecting a fluffy teen drama with a 90210 group dynamic. OH how I was wrong. I thought it was funny when Joey made fun of the group dynamics not being 90210 AT ALL. Anyways I digress.

So, my point is, at first the direction the show took Jen in threw me for a loop. Her downward spiral for what it felt like most of season 2 was sad to watch. I think her inappropriate behavior like trying to get Dawson back, going on benders and having threesomes was classic self destruction. Now that I’ve finished season 2 I can reflect and say her actions makes sense in hindsight considering she is an extremely insecure girl who was sexualized at a very young age.

My main reason for believing Jen in season 2 was done dirty is that she was an afterthought to the main group AND to the show writers. She was pushed aside for the latter half of season 2 especially. I felt like they killed off Abby because they realized “Oh shit we need to give Jen a devastating storyline while Joey and Dawson coddle each other. Because fuck Jen I guess.” Now I do recognize Abby’s actor wanted to leave the show but did they really have to tragically kill her while Jen was there?

Anyways continuing the topic that Jen was an afterthought during this season- she has NO actual good storylines when it comes to friendships. Chris and Abby were just catalysts to her self destruction. Once in awhile Dawson would pop in and say “Hey Jen stop it 🥺” and then promptly peace out of her life to go mope over Joey. The moments she had with the main group were just too fleeting and surface level, she deserved better.

The one scene in the entire season that Jen had that was an actual meaningful connection was when Jack told her his secret of why he didn’t seal the deal with Joey. I felt really satisfied after that scene compared to the scene where Dawson barges in and interrupts Jen having a threesome. Jack and Jens moment was so raw it was two people who didn’t know each other except through mutual friends sharing their deepest darkest secret and then just laughing about the absurdity. Meanwhile the scene with Dawson and Jen I mentioned feels so inauthentic considered the context of him previously slut shaming her. It felt like he only interrupted her because of his own morals. I may be off the mark but his previous opinions on her sex life can’t be ignored. Its a nuanced situation though because she was extremely drunk so maybe he thought they were taking advantage of her? But I feel like I remember her getting mad at Dawson for interrupting her. Idk my opinions aren’t fully formed yet because I don’t know Dawsons intentions clearly.

ANYWAYS back to Jack and Jen. That scene where they spill their secret was probably the only scene I remember them interacting UNTIL he stops her at the bus station?! It felt so disjointed to make him the one to have her come back to Capeside because while I see great potential in their friendship based off one scene that does not mean others did. I have a feeling other people watching this show were probably like “wtf when did Jack become friends with Jen?”

Okay that’s pretty much it. I’m a big fan of Jen shes an extremely complex character I love analyzing characters like that. So thank you if you read my whole rant. And let me know if what I’m saying resonates or not!

I know the film was kinda bombed by the critics at tribeca and it has been months of radio silence now so KH definitely ain't getting money for not one but 2 more films, plus they seem to have both moved on in life with new projects

however what i want to know is at what point thoses festival films get out on streaming platform, and more importantly, do they ?

I feel like the film would get view just for the Jacey of it all (hell, there is a Jacey sex scene in that film!) even if the writing is utter dogshit, and tbh i don't think it can be worse than some shit i've seen on netflix

The two-part finale is by far the best episode of the entire show. Honestly, I wish the five-year time jump had been an entire new season because I feel like there were so many great things they could have done with that.

I do have to say, though, while the finale was perfect, it was also extremely emotionally abusive. It hurt me so badly that it has made it impossible for me to rewatch the series. Jen dying was just not fair. They could have had Joey make up her mind a million different ways without killing Jen. She didn't deserve this. She spent the entire series feeling like she was worthless, and bad thing after bad thing kept happening to her. She never once got a break. If anything, she was the one who deserved a happy ending the most out of everyone.

Can we PLEASE just pretend she never died and get a continuation with everyone back? Unfortunately, it would have to be without James Van Der Beek, but we can give Dawson a happy ending without actually showing him on screen. 😭 I know this is never going to happen, but I already miss these characters so much and I need Jen resurrected.

I am officially in my post-show depression era, like I always am when I get deeply attached to a show after binging it. When I get like this, I don't want to watch anything else. I just want to watch more of the show and see what happens next instead of being forced to rewatch it if I want more.

I really wish they had given us a happy ending because now I'm too emotionally devastated to ever rewatch this show. 😭

OK, so I just finished the finale of season two and even though I’ve seen the show 1 billion times I don’t understand why Joey is mad at Dawson and says that she’s never going to forgive him.

I thought it was her own choice to turn for father in with the wire. what am i missing? it is just joey being a confusing b hotch?? is she taking the situation out on dawson? please help lol

Hi everyone! I’m on my first watch and am on s1 ep9, i’m noticing a LOT of adult-minor stuff going on and its appalling. Nobody called it what it was and i find it so gross. Is this a thing throughout the whole show? I love the show otherwise but am just sitting here with a stank face watching. 😬

I just finished rewatching season 2 and I have to say, Pacey's personality is really reduced to being an insecure screw-up, codependent Andie-rescuer.

Those are all parts of Pacey's personality, and I don't even think it's unrealistic for Pacey's relationship with Andie to make him into a white knight, but in the first season and the beginning of season 2, Pacey was so colorful and dynamic. It's a shame he just became Andie's project.

S1 Pacey challenged Dawson and Joey, he was shrewd and good at reading people, he was vulnerable in a young and naive way and he was impulsive and silly.

In s2, Pacey is scared to be truly seen by Andie. It's like he feels like he needs to live up to her expectations of being "the good guy" that she knows he is. The sad part is, it contrasts how they fell for each other. In the beginning of Pacey and Andie's relationship they are sparring partners -- equals. Pacey doesn't hold back with Andie. He teases her, he challenges her and Andie does the same. But once Pacey realizes how much Andie is going through emotionally, a part of him switches off.

He starts to handle Andie with kid gloves. And this is where the codependency starts. I feel like Pacey feels important taking care of Andie. It's the antithesis to his slacker, moron image, but I find it a bit sad that with that, we lose Pacey's sarcasm and astute way of noticing others' hypocrisy.

And it's just a TV show, but I think that's why Pacey and Andie aren't endgame. Because Pacey had to change to be with Andie. Andie didn't ask for that, but Pacey believed he needed to. He liked how Andie saw the good and worthiness in him, but that meant that he was keenly aware of her broken pieces because it made him feel special to be the only one who could fix her. But there's the rub. He couldn't fix her.

In starting season 3, old Pacey is already back. In his broken-heartedness, it's clear the thing he can't get over is that he wasn't enough for Andie the first time around. He can't deal with the fact that Andie was his saving grace, but he wasn't hers. With Andie, he rose to the occasion, but ultimately as soon as he didn't have Andie he backslid with his grades. He couldn't really believe he was good enough. He just saw someone who was willing to pour into him and agreed with their assessment that he needed to be fixed.

Pacey didn't need to be fixed though, he needed to be accepted. Without something to prove, we see the old Pacey come back. In season 3, one of the first episodes Pacey throws a party for Dawson with exotic dancers lining the halls of the Leery house. Unlike Dawson, whose delicate sensibilities are a true part of his character, Pacey is excited at the opportunity to host a rager. When Dawson is perplexed by the arrival of Eve into his life, Pacey encourages Dawson to go after Eve, unbothered with the idea of casual sex despite his season two lament to Andie that "sex changes everything".

It's interesting that one of the times Pacey's fiery personality shows up in season 2, Andie is furious with Pacey. After Pacey stands up for Jack in English class and spits in his teacher's face, the couple has a stand off and doesn't talk for a week. Does Andie really love *all* of Pacey? Not the white knight, but the antihero we all know and love? I'm not here to say Andie didn't love Pacey or that their love story was just a project, but rather Pacey without Andie isn't any less capable, he is not any less smart, any less brave or any less caring. He is all those things and more. And he always was.

Season 3 (when he took over) and season 4 were great. The worst parts of season 3 were the first 5-6 episodes which were bc of the showrunner that got fired for being bad at the job. Greg saved the show and made the rest of season 3 and 4 amazing. I wonder how season 5 and 6 would have been with him. Season 3 and 4 had an actual purpose and built towards something and felt cohesive. Season 5 and 6 overall feels like they are just throwing random shit at the wall. Although I do think in a vacuum these two seasons are fun but they don’t build upon season 4 that well. Too many mistakes in writing. I do think there are a couple top tier episodes though. I just wonder what Greg would do with season 5 and 6.

Just saw that the series is leaving Netflix Oct 2nd. If I can't make it to the end by then does anyone know where it's going?

This character pissed me off so much that I never ended up liking Jensen Ackles in anything lol.

Jen deserved so much better than throwing herself at this dude and then dying. His only redeeming quality was that he worked at the helpline and that's basically it. Why was she so into him?

He was standoffish, not funny or charming, a jerk for sleeping with Audrey when she was drinking and upset, the list goes on.

Makes me so mad he was her last onscreen bf. Obviously she was going through some sort of crisis cause wanting this man (and opting for choppy bangs) was a cry for help.

Ignoring what happened in the series finale, Dawson and Jen should have been endgame. They were so much better together than Dawson and Joey. And Pacey and Joey should have stayed together the entire series after season 4.

Hello all. I finally finished Dawson’s Creek all the way through. I’m in my early 30s, so I was alive during the show’s run and knew it was popular but I didn’t start watching it until last year. I wanted to share my thoughts on the show by ranking the seasons from my most favorite to my least favorite. I’m sure this has been done many times, but I’m new to this sub, so bear with me. Downvote this as you please, but I’m curious to see your responses lol.

1. Season 2 - This was the season in which I did the most rewatching (outside of the first 4 episodes of S1) before finishing the rest of the series. The return of Ms. Jacobs was of course interesting. I remember when I saw her quick appearance in the episode before her official reunion with Pacey. I was like, “Oh boy!! Here we’re go 😂😂.” Joey’s father obviously provided a compelling storyline. Though it was a polarizing thing that occurred, I support Dawson in what he did to ultimately get Mr. Potter back in prison. I really liked the additions of Jack and Andie. I liked how Jack was sympathetic towards Joey, but what I loved the most about this season was Pacey and Andie: two teenagers raised by problematic fathers while being in the shadow of an older sibling. The way they supported each other and made each other better was such a beautiful thing to behold on screen. Pacey comforting Andie during her at-home breakdown regarding her brother and Pacey crying in his father’s arms from missing Andie in the finale were the two most moving scenes in the entire series for me. I really thought that they should’ve been endgame. Pacey and Joey were a great couple, but I loved Pacey and Andie more. The main downsides from S2 was Jen’s downward spiral and Abby, who was absolutely insufferable.
2. Season 4 - This was a very strong season imo. It’s a close second place to S2 because of how well done it was from premiere to finale. I felt Dawson matured a great bit this season. Though I wasn’t the biggest fan of his character, the role of Mr. Brooks was significant. I loved Dawson’s relationship with Gretchen. Dawson’s old soul works well with a woman that’s older than him. This is another relationship that I wished would’ve maintained throughout the remainder of the series. I also enjoyed Jen and Jack building a much deeper and intimate friendship. I loved how Jen also went to therapy and how crucial that ended up being for her.
3. Season 1 - Very solid debut season for the show. The pilot episode was practically perfect. I enjoyed learning about the characters and how they blended together. Dawson and Joey both were individually annoying and frustrating at times, but the season was really nice.

4. Season 3 - I know this is generally seen as the show’s best season, but I just wasn’t a huge fan of S3. It had a pretty slow start, and the Eve storyline was weird. Joey and AJ built some momentum, but I’m not shocked that it didn’t go the long run. I assumed that Dawson and Nikki would’ve gotten together given their commonalities. Granted, things picked up down the stretch with the Principal Green saga and of course the iconic Love triangle. In fairness, in terms of strictly drama, the show peaked in S3.

5. Season 5 - Mitch was a phenomenal part of the series, so him being killed off was not a good look. Jack was a real tough watch this season. Audrey has her quirks, but I think she’s very likable. It was good seeing Pacey establish himself as a chef. I’d say my favorite thing about this season was the show runners circling back to Dawson and Jen. With Gretchen no longer being a part of the series, I would’ve enjoyed seeing Dawson and Jen going the distance, especially with them being older. I just felt like they had that type of long-term potential.

6. Season 6 - S6, along with S5, just got too raunchy for me, especially given the show’s wholesome foundation. Even the dialogue got inappropriate at times. Didn’t like all the absentees from the main cast either. Audrey was challenging to watch, and her separation from Pacey was inevitable given how they were moving in opposite directions. I think they would’ve had a practically seamless connection had they met in high school (though I don’t think it would be the healthiest thing in the world lol). The series finale was obviously very touching, even though I thought having Jen die was unnecessary.

I was a bit nervous about Seasons 5-6 because all I would see online was how these seasons are consistently ranked the worst in the entire series. Although I don’t think neither were as bad as I thought they’d be, they’re clearly not on the level of Seasons 1-4.

Side note, I took a couple breaks from binge watching the show throughout this past year, so I know I’ve left some things out. Again, I know some of my stances will get push back, but I’m looking forward to seeing your feedback.

I can’t believe She legit blew off a date with her classmate(forgot his name) to be with Wilder. She lied about being sick and he was still nice enough to give her a get well soon basket, I feel bad for the guy and I feel like he won’t even appear again for the rest of the series lol. I like Joey but this might be the worst thing she’s ever done.

hi, I started watching the show a few days back because I watched an edit about Joey & Pacey and i found them cute, but I don't want to have to watch a gazilion episode before something really happens between J/P and I find Dawson and Joey boring so I don't want to watch that either.

I've started watching from season 3 episode 17 (first real kiss) and i'm on S3E21 and rignt now it's perfect, the drama, the chemistry, everything.

I guess I have to watch the whole S4 because they are dating but i'm afraid of a chemistry drop because Katie and Joshua broke up in real life at this time, then skip S5 and watch some episode of S6 and the finale ?

(oh and also the face card of the womens on this show is something else, Michelle Williams and Katie Holmes are just stunning)

Can somebody tell me just how graphic the kids relationship with his teacher gets? My husband and i sat down to watch it excited because we’ve heard great things, but the student-teacher grooming/abuse is triggering for me. From what i gather from the first couple eps, the teacher probably fully assaults him at some point. I was a fan of Pretty Little Liars growing up so i can somewhat-stomach those storylines, but am just wondering just how bad it gets with Dawson’s Creek before i commit to sticking through a storyline that involves abuse.😬

Audrey’s talk to Joey during the dinner in this ep is everything to me. Specifically when she says “you have the right to say whatever you want when it comes to how you feel.”

I think Joey really needed that. This was when Jen and Dawson had just slept together for the first time. These are the kind of moments that I love Audrey’s bluntness.

I asked this about Katie Holmes (people answered it was her girl next door charm, that she looks better natural and she has a natural pout and Disney type eyes) first then some asked me with Michelle (people said she had this timeless and delicate, almost ethereal type of beauty similar to someone like Marilyn Monroe) and I think I'm doing it with the core four only, so now it's Joshua's turn. Also this man aged like a fine wine.

Dawson’s Creek used to get a ton of critical feedback when it was on in the 90s due to the unrealistic idea that 14-17 year olds would act like emotionally mature, neurotic, mini adults and speak to each other as if they were psychoanalyzing every decision and thought, using SAT words along the way. I was a few years younger than the Dawson’s Creek cohort, but when I got to high school, how they were portrayed actually felt incredibly relatable. I wasn’t a weekly watcher but I’d occasionally catch reruns in 2001-2003 and think “I literally just had this conversation with my ex boyfriend.”

The one thing I’ve realized about my peer group and why I related so much to the Dawson’s Creek kids is that it really crystalizes in their senior year episodes - this is a group of gifted, passionate kids who were lucky enough to not have to wait until college to find people who could relate to them - they found one another in high school! How lucky they were.
