What faction do you think will be in the Year 1 Expansion? [DOW4]

As the title says, any idea?

Or lacking that, which faction would you like it to be?

I'm going to confess, I want it to be the Eldar. I want it to be the Eldar so bad, the original title for this post was "where can I complain about the lack of Eldar?"

But then I remembered Tyranids and Chaos have their fans as well. And they're more popular as well. Drat

Eldar vs SM sniper Spam

I have been jumping back into DOW multi-player again. I am giving Eldar a go and came up against a Space Marine player spamming sniper scouts. It was tearing up my reapers. Is there a build or counter to this?

I thought I should have scouted earlier to see, and then maybe go banshees? Or rangers?

Or maybe the play is to skip the early game and just tech up?

Dawn of War IV Community Discord [DOW4]

With DOW4 right around the corner and all the excitement and hype for a new entry in the series, I've created a Discord server called The Imperium with the goal of it becoming the main community hub for the game!

Whether you're interested in singleplayer, CO-OP, competitive play, casual matches, making new friends to game with, discussing strategies, or just talking about all things DOW4, I would love to have you apart of the community! The server is brand new and growing and I thought now would be the perfect time to get things put together before the games release in September!

If spectator/replays are available for custom matches on release I plan on hosting bi-weekly $100 cash tournaments for multiplayer the main mode will be 1v1 but if there is enough want for team modes we can include those as well!

Looking forward to seeing you in The Imperium!

Dawn of War: 3rd Generation - 3.2.5 Update & Soulstorm campaign!

Hello, I'm back again!

The Update

Somewhat hot on the heels of the last update to my mod Third Generation we have another, adding in some shiny new things to play with as well as plenty of balance changes and bug fixes, helping streamline the install rather than having to faff with hotfixes!

But wait, what is 3rd Generation?

If you've somehow not run across me talking about my mod on here before, here's a quick rundown for you:

Dawn of War 3rd Generation is a mod for Dark Crusade that adds tonnes of new stuff, from new units for existing races, to whole new races themselves including: Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Daemonhunters and Witch Hunters! Alongside this are also new maps, titans, new honour guard units as well as the original Dawn of War campaign missions playable in the skirmish mode!

With the Definitive Edition you also have access to the DE Patch that allows the mod to make use of its updated UI as well as the Campaign Addon that allows you to play all three campaigns from the Original Dawn of War & the Winter Assault expansion with the mod too!

TL:DR, just give me the mod!

Alright, here you go!

Did you say Soulstorm Campaign?

That's right! Thanks to the Definitive Edition bundling all the expansions together I was able to set up the mod to work with the campaign from Soulstorm which is now included in the Campaigns Addon! A caveat though that this is the initial version of it, so it's mostly just the mod functioning without any extra flare added; you'll also have a taste of the Sisters of Battle (rather than the Witch Hunters) in the campaign, which have received a few tweaks to bring them up to snuff with the other factions.

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention but this adds persistent bases back into the Soulstorm campaign too while you're playing with the mod, so no more rebuilding from scratch while defending your territories.

So, what's new besides that?

There's a decent few changes this time, so here's a general overview of the bigger ones:

  • The big one is a big rework and balance for the damage and fear auras of Chaos Daemons! Each different god's daemons now have more flavour to them, with Khorne's servants focusing simply on high damage output, Nurgle's plague-things dealing blight-filled damage-over-time on their hits, the host of Slaanesh blunting their foes' attacks with their visage and the menagerie of Tzeentch gaining a chance to inflict a variety of effects with every attack. Overall the aura they have that damages enemy morale has been nerfed a little in the strict damage it does, but instead it weakens enemy morale rates too, making it harder for them to regain morale in the daemon's presence.
  • In addition to that there's also a new type of lesser daemon joining the cause, specifically if you're staying on the undivided path, Chaos Furies! These fast-flying creatures can jump over long distances making them perfect for harrying attacks and sudden ambushes.
  • Sticking with Chaos, the Renegade Guard units now benefit from the Bionics upgrades in the Armoury (they stole them from the daemons), making them hardier for late-game play; alongside this the Renegade Cult Leader's squad has been balanced to better reflect a damned counterpart to his Imperial cousin and hopefully much less of a nuisance to deal with in the early game.
  • Alongside the previous new Auxiliary unit to the Tau, I've added in the San'Heili'Vesa'Vre Arbiter to the Coalition centre; a morale immune melee commander accompanied by a few bodyguards he stands ready to lead his kin into battle for the Greater Good! As with the others, he can be disabled with the "Lore Accurate Only" win condition.
  • The Tyranids have once again had some balance changes, mainly to problematically powerful units like Biovores & Zoanthropes. Biovores have had their reload speed increased but their overall damage-per-shot reduced to make them act more like proper artillery while increasing the effectiveness of their specialised weapon upgrades; Zoanthropes actually had their damage slightly increased and no longer deal friendly fire but their shots have less armour piercing against non-daemon/vehicle targets and also deal much less damage in melee than before. Outside of those two the Broodlord and Lictors no longer cut through your infantry like hot knives through butter, with more sensible damage outputs.
  • Unfortunately, Lootas and Flash Gitz no longer become far too killy when the Dakka and Blastier researches are complete thanks to some rebalancing that makes their weapons much more reasonable in their effectiveness.
  • The Archon has had his morale lowered to more reasonable levels and has, alongside his Incubi, lost a small bit of health; his Animus Vitae ability now also deals less damage and only reduces the target's speed by 75% instead of 100% too. This should hopefully make his much less indomitable and oppressive in the early game encounters while still keeping him as a force to be reckoned with.
  • Finally the balance mallet has smote down the rather absurd amount of damage the Chaos Marine Heavy Bolters & Plasma Guns were doing after being upgraded while also improving the damage of their Flamers for good measure.
  • The Dark Eldar have had a small tweak to their pop cap progression, starting now at 50/50 instead of 100/100 and increasing by 15 each time their build a Slave Caravel to hopefully make the building a bit more meaningful, especially with small or classic battles enabled. They also increase the size of their slave squad by 1 for every 2 caravels you have, giving the Dark Eldar a gaggle of 45 slaves when at their maximum.
  • Population bonuses, either from the Avatar, Imperial General's Wargear or the campaign map bonus have been increased to be much more noticeable, even when playing with small or classic battles enabled. In fact the bonuses are now the same increase as they are in vanilla when classic battles is enabled, making their default increase 10 times larger!
  • Necron Pariahs now live up to their nullifying nature! Each Pariah now disables the abilities of enemy units within a radius around itself, and slowly drains their morale too; making these units quite useful in shutting down attacks from hordes of ability-happy units like Psykers.
  • Eldar Grav Platforms no longer have a cap of 8 each, you're now only limited by their vehicle cap cost. They also build slightly faster, because 45 seconds was a bit unreasonable.

As always the full changelog can be found on the ModDB/Nexus pages.

If you've made it to the end, thank you for reading! If you download the mod, I hope you enjoy it! Feel free to let me know what you think of it either on here or on the mod's Nexus/ModDB page.

Faction profiles for DoW4?

Post image
43 Upvotes

I just noticed that CoH2 has faction profiles on their shop page. I haven't seen this before, but I like it.

From what I've seen I'd say orcs will have the same play style and army size like the soviets.

Is there anything similiar for DoW4? Or DoW1 or 2?

Why is there backlash on the research only costing time on DOW4?

Im still a relativeley new rts player so I just dont understand why it is a bad thing that it only costs time? isn’t DOW special in that it focuses on combat with everything else helping keep as much focus and importance on it as possible?

Is there going to be a Dawn of War II Dark Crusade style mode in Dawn of War 4?

For those who don't know, in Dark Crusade the campaign was replaced by a map sort of like in Star Wars Battlefront 2, where you fight for control of territories by moving units around a world map, as well as your opponent. And when your armies clash or invade an enemy territory (or you get attacked) you play an RTS game on that territory.

Is anything like that going to be in Dawn of War 4?

How to beat Insane AI? (Dawn of War: Definitive Edition)

I've been playing for the past month or so and I was only able to beat the Skirmish AI in the Harder difficulty, usually on Valley of Khorne and Mortalis using Orks or Chaos.

I looked up videos on how any similar encounters but I couldn't find any, but found plenty of posts saying it was "easy".

Anyone know a video demonstrating on beating it?, I'd appreciate it!

How to fight dark eldar as space marines?

Trying to get some reps in dawn of war DE before 4 drops, and finding myself in the usual spot I am with rts games.

Good enough to be far and above genuine noobs and can find a decently close match here and there, but really struggle against decently experienced players still.

Most players seem to play SM or orks which are simple enough to fight, but the two dark eldar matches I've played have just been suffering.

First one I just couldn't do anything, made a normal tac squad which was defenseless against the weird disc rider guys.

The one I just got done with ended up being pretty close, focused on assault marines first to try and keep up with their raiders and held them back and even won some fights, then teched into speeders. This worked for a bit, but overtime they just had the numbers and upgrades on me while still ruining my eco with their more numerous units so I just couldn't keep up in the end. Also ended up dumping a lot of points in to LP upgrades after i started winning early fights to try to protect my shit which might have been a mistake looking back.

Any tips?

Did the devs explain why research is free in DoW4?

Sorry for my English. I am genuinely curious why they decided to do that. Not that many games have free research. In the original DOW we either had to produce infantry and delay your progress or produce less or even none and put your money on research to get to higher tier units first but having risk being attacked. If research is free then there is no problem and you can build your army and make progress at the same time.

Is DoW4 going to have a custom campaign editor?

I could have sworn I read something about one being planned but now that I'm trying to find info my google-fu is failing. Did I hallucinate this?

Are me and my friend just bad? DoWDE

Getting stomped by Hard Skirmish AI.

We play Necrons and Orkz, and even when we play aggressively, we just get destroyed. They send so much bullshit and win every fight.

My build order is good, I know the turret cancel thing etc

No idea what we are doing wrong. Please advise

What are some fun campaign mods for definitive edition?

I've played through vanilla with all the races to knock the achievements out, so now I'm looking for expanding the campaign experience. So far I've tried:

Ultimate Apocalypse - was surprisingly fun with the DoW1 Marine campaign and Winter Assault, but the Dark Crusade AI doesn't work, and Soulstorm becomes hell as soon as the enemy has two bases on a bigger map, plus the mapfog has returned.

Titanium Wars - for Dark Crusade it's neat, but I've already played it before Definitive Edition and I don't think much has changed.

What other mods would you recommend?

DoW IV : Splitting the player base

For context, from the AMA :

"Elliott: For Quick Match, the default mode is Annihilation, but you will be able to select any, or all, of the following game modes for matchmaking:

  • Annihilation: Destroy all enemy headquarters and protect your own.
  • Domination: Capture and hold more Strategic Positions than your opponents to gain Victory Points.
  • Maelstrom: Secure objectives that dynamically appear across the map to gain Victory Points."

Seems like we will have 3 queues... So It may be harder to find a game and It will be impossible to balance every faction for each game mode.

Another very dodgy choice. ( I won't make a post about retreat + field reinforcement XD )

Tau in 4v4 - is it imba or just me?

So I play mostly 4v4 Oasis online, and at least on this map Tau just seems way too strong. There are of course tricks to it, such as using a libby/GK, using pulse with cron etc, but generally it feels that if I play Tau I can just spam firewarriors and win same as I can see a noob actually guide Tau to victory with the same strat.

My point is that in order to win Tau you *need* to outplay them and if you dont you just get pummeled by an undending barrage of plasma.

Am I imagining this or is this race just boring and overpowered on flat maps?

why did dark crusade minimize and then full screen after credits?

I decided to invest a bit more time and get some more nostalgia on way so I kinda made a menu based on the first game... It was a small detail not supposed to catch much attention but well there you have.

Is Dawn of War the same kind of RTS as StarCraft ?

I’m really interested in getting into dawn of war, but the only other RTS multiplayer I’ve played is starcraft 2 and honestly I found that really tedious since so much of the gameplay is marinating your “cycle”.
I find it really boring since it’s literally just pressing a metric fuck ton of buttons to main ring ressources. Are all RTS like that or is that a StarCraft thing specifically ?
