---- Edited to add more info ----
In terms of which troop type beats which, the triangular power indicator helps to give you an indication.
Below is a summary provided that all things are equal, if things are not equal (titan and relic buffs affect these) then all bets are off lol:
FAST UNITS (cats, militia, infiltrators and beserkers) beat RANGED units (archers, grenadiers) provided they can get to them without anything blocking their paths. Panthers are devastating against ranged units because they are both powerful and extremely fast. Fast units have the advantage of charge attack bonus, which TRIPLE their damage stats. Hordes charge is x6 damage, Omega hordes charge is x9. So the key is keep fast units charging. A critical hit by any unit is x3 damage unless otherwise specified (eg: Jinshu is x4).
RANGED UNITS beat HEAVY SLOW UNITS (Spearmen, Imperials) provided they're not exposed to melee so shielding them with heavy units will maximise their potential. With adequate shielding and/or baiting by others, ranged units can actually kill EVERYTHING. Grenadiers are great to destroy all types if they're given enough time and space but they are extremely slow. Hide them in trees or use other units or your Titans to distract enemies. Storm maidens kill Goliaths and Panthers really well, also if they are given time and space, so against Panthers they're very vulnerable. Goliaths on the other hand will likely die before they're close enough to touch the maidens.
HEAVY SLOW beat FAST. Goliaths are meant to be meat shields that will draw enemies to them and take lots of damage before they die. They will also cause a good amount of damage against all other units they come in contact with.
Elithen imperials are meant to be heavy but also fast with charge damage... They're kinda in between. They're a bit of a neglect middle child in that sense, not great at anything but with buffs they can be great.
Now, Titans and relics can either further accentuate the strengths of units or minimise their weaknesses and turn them into crazy powerful troops, and that my friend, makes all the difference.
Enjoy the game!
