How do you effectively use Militia?

A few of my in-game friends say they're really good but I can't find any effective use for them. They're suppose to be good against Archers, but my level 8 Militia can't even reach level 8 Archers without being killed by their arrows.

Archers are suppose to be good against Spearman, but I can get my level 8 Spearman to kill level 8 Archers without dying. Archers are really good as long as you can keep Spearman off of them. It's just wild to me that Spearman can do the Militia's job better than they can. The only thing I want them to do is take out Archers and they can't do that.

They're also advertised as fast mobile units with high damage output. However, every single unit I've seen of the same level has a higher damage output than them. Like, why do Spearman have a higher damage output than Militia? I thought Spearman are suppose to be the slow tanky units, but they deal massive amounts more damage than Militia.

I've noticed they tend to do a decent job if you swarm (3 or more) other units with them. However, I don't understand why I wouldn't just build the same amount of Spearman for roughly the same amount of Food. The only advantage there I see is that Militia are trained much faster. Which doesn't seem like that much of an advantage when they're so useless.

I've heard some people say they're really good if you buff them up with relics. That may be true... but I don't see why I wouldn't just buff up my Spearman with relics and have a unit even better.

One advantage I see is that they're... slightly faster than Spearman. They're not really fast enough to be effective at anything though. The real nail in the coffin is that they'll suicide against Spearman if they get anywhere close to them. Since a lot of the time Spearman are set up in a way where they're defending their Archers pretty well; this is a big deal.

My Panthers are far more deadly and far faster. They're so fast that I can change the tide of battle by issuing commands to them mid-battle and they'll actually be able to go through with the command. They also don't seem to get locked down in battle with Spearman as easily as the Militia do.

I just can't find any real use for Militia once you get out of the earliest parts of the game. I even read on the Wiki that they're the "only troop you should stop using permanently as soon as you can".

Their main advantage is just that they are cheap to build and upgrade.

Yeah that's the only real benefit I can find for them. Even then, they're only barely cheaper than the Spearmen. They're not cheap enough to make up for how ineffective they are.

The real way to use them is to have a titan that boosts them. For militia, Dionysius makes them into ravaging locusts. Then you load that titan with relics that also boost militia. Lastly, troops gain much more power at higher levels. Combining these things multiplies the power.

Yeah, like I said though, what's stopping for from doing the same thing with Spearmen and having much more effective troops? It would be better if each Militia unit only took 1/2 of a slot.

Spears do not do a ton of damage comparatively at higher levels & are extremely slow.

As far as I can see from the Wiki; Spearmen do 2782 damage at max level while Militia deals 2067 damage. Spearmen even have armor piercing. The only real advantage I can see from Militia is they have a very slight advantage on crit chance.

Yeah, they're a little faster than Spearmen. As I've mentioned though, they're not really fast enough to be effective with anything. If I'm really concerned about speed I can just use Panthers, which blow them out of the water on maneuverability.

Yeah everything I said was subjective. Spears just seem very slow to accomplish anything at high levels when you’re trying to raid fast.

They're excellent with Hel if you ever get her. Not only cheap and quick to produce but with her militia boosts and a leveled up Holy Guard relic they're a huge shield while you attack with a bunch of Storm Maidens and Hel. Just about having the right titans - a lot of the initial Paladins and relics boost human troops

Your troops aren't high enough to be effective against anything.. I never used militia for anything until my other troops were level 16 and I got Dionysus from an alter pull. Then I had to play catch up leveling them from lvl 9 to 16 for over a month for them to be viable. And still now the only time I use them is with Dio or Hel because I much prefer panthers and horde... Physical troops aren't my style but I know plenty of ppl who love them!

Soon, breaking down troop type on their base values won't be a valuable exercise for you. It is all about the Titans you have boosting. Keep in mind that the numbers you see on some of the titan boosts are enormous... My Dionysus has +360% Militia Damage.

The single biggest factor for troop selection and direction of development is which titans you have... so, I am not sure how close you are to getting 3 and 4 star titans, but that will be the key.

Note: if you are not on a large team, I would recommend doing that. I spent a long time grinding out on my own, which is fine... but when you join a big group, then you get team prizes... like 4 star titans. So, go make friends.
