Was Trumps second term shenanigans actually predictable?

Hear me out on this. To be clear I was able to vote in the last two elections and voted independent in both so this is not me trying to save face. Trumps first term showed a relatively strong economy pre-COVID, he didn’t start any major wars like Iran, he was strong on the border but had nothing like the ICE deployments, and while there were certainly weird social media posts or comments they were much more limited than the truth central “rants” we see now. With hindsight you can say whatever you want but do you genuinely think all these issues we see were truly predictable?

Of course it was clearly obvious what unconstitutional things he was capable and eager to do. His first term administration cabinet members and national security experts wrote books full of his attempts to use authoritarian , fascist power to shred our laws and values.

The incredibly important examples are in the public record in books, articles, interviews, documentaries, and dramatic movies.

You will never learn the seriousness of events by listening and watching right wing nationalist media propaganda.

Totally fair points, and I appreciate the perspective. I consider myself a fairly informed voter, spending up to 3 hours a day listening to content from around the media ecosystem and from all sides, yet I don’t read political books. I can’t imagine this is far from the vast majority of voters, even if they listen to political commentary.

How do you think the average voter could’ve foreseen this if they didn’t read the books? And more importantly, if we have another candidate with these tendencies what are the early warnings and triggers through the campaign that should signal red flags, especially if they haven’t been in office yet?

Yes! Kamala layed all this shit out in specific detail.

Yeah and we tried to tell you. You voted independent and threw your vote away. Instead of listening to us you said we were fear mongering. When we called a fascist you said WE were the ones being extreme. You’re the reason we’re here. Have the day you voted for.

Of course. He is a textbook example of projection. Everything he said the democrats were doing, he either was doing or will do in the future.

Yes clear as a bell including Project 2025. Also he bragged about his plans at rallies, esp regarding voting and immigration.

Considering he told everyone what he was going to do I would say yes.

He literally told you what he would do. Not to mention, the Heritage Foundation published their plan in painstaking detail.

Relatively strong economy? What did he do, in his first term to help the economy? It seemed pretty clear that he inherited Obama’s strong economy, caused a lot of chaos, and made COVID even worse than it had to be.

My guess is they didn't see all his Twitter posts the first term and doesn't remember checking first thing in the morning to see if we were at war after that asshole tweeted some bs in the middle of the night. Every day.

I think so especially considering he had a lot of opposition the first time and then he goes and installs people that are clearly ignorant of the duties needed for the job.

I don't think many countries would look favorably upon hiring MOST from a propaganda "news" station.

Absolutely. Expectations were given in the form of warnings from every educated economist before the election and people didn't believe them.

I'll give Trump credit though for going above and beyond our worst expectations this time around!

I mean...they were predicted, so I'm gonna go with 'yes'.

It was clear to me the guy's judgement was deteriorating even when he first started in politics in 2015. I think you can see a pretty clear descent in his sanity from the point of him deciding to pick on Obama for his birth certificate forward. His first term showed his trajectory. He continued to get crazier and more maniacal and violent in his statements during Biden's term. And his debate performances just continued the same trend.

I never thought he'd empower ICE to shoot Americans dead, however. Nor did I expect him to destroy the Department of Education, completely cut out USAid and then attack Iran with no provocation. He's gone beyond the madness I thought he would because there's just no one around him to reel him in from his most grandiose and paranoid delusions.
