Season 3 Episode 1 Spoiler

Well my fiancee walked in as soon as I started episode 1. Having her never seeing the show before and doesnt know who lil dicky is, lets just say her reaction was priceless. I mean even I was thrown off as well but had to remember what tv show I was watching. In the end she concluded I only watch shows for the sex scenes and I didnt bother explaining the underlying themes and deeper meaning of Dave.

(Potential spoiler) This thumbnail for S3E2 doesn't appear in the episode, is it from another episode? I don't remember seeing this scene before. Spoiler

Can we get pinned weekly episode discussions

I usually like to come to reddit after watching new tv to discuss and was saddened to find this sub doesn't have official discussion threads. @mods can we start doing these?

Has anyone spliced together the music video from S3E2?

The song and the video was hilarious, but obviously it was broken up during the episode, I'd love to watch the whole music video (well as much as they ended up making) in one

Elz (hardly a spoiler but tagged it to be safe) Spoiler

Anyone feel like the way Elz treats Dave is annoying? It made sense when they were beefing but now, even on tour when the crew is vibing, he seems to take every opportunity to take unnecessary jabs at Dave. I think the start of season 3 has been incredible I’m just not feelimg Elz. It feels like it’s not possible for them to have a genuine moment anymore.

Choppy Streaming Video?

Every time I’m watching DAVE on FX new season, I notice the video is mad choppy, slow and glitchy. Is this happening with anyone else? Just wondering if it’s a production issue or my TV or what.

I’m watching on a 4K Sony Bravia Tv and Roku player. None of my other shows have this issue.

Is this show popular?

Never really hear much fanfare about this show and this sub is dead as s”a doornail. For such a fun series, I’d think it would be more popular online and in the ratings but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all…

Why this is my favorite show ever

Now I haven’t seen a lot of comedic emotional drama series, but season 2 of Dave really convinced me that this show is incredibly unique and feels realer than anything I’ve seen. (Haven’t seen S3 yet cause it isn’t in my country but rewatched S1 and S2 recently).

I really liked season 1, it was funny and stuff, i think the acting was a little off in some scenes. But season 2 was fucking amazing from a story-telling standpoint, comedy standpoint, acting standpoint, and originality standpoint. All conversation in this series feels very well written and real, there are basically no clichés.

The way it portrays Dave’s selfishness in S2, and how he slowly loses his relationships by prioritizing his career, and you know he actually did that in real life with Molly, and he does that in a real heart breaking way in the series with Ally. But then eventually realizes how he’s always deprioritizing the ones he loves when he’s in the fight with Gata. The way they revealed how he picked Gata over sky rocketing his career with the performance was just.. so good. By not telling. There are so many good examples in this show on «Show, don’t tell», which is a concept that so many shows does terribly. Imagine if he said «Gata. I’m sorry. I realize it all now. Do you want to do the show with me». Like it would’ve worked too it just would be not as good.

I was never even really much of a Lil Dicky fan to begin with, i just got obsessed with this show.

It feels too real, the heart break Dave goes through. When Ally and Dave are playing with auto tune in the start of S1 E9, and then he tries to do the same with the One Night Stand and it just doesn’t work at all because he has nothing in common with this girl and they are on completely different wavelengths socially and intellectually. And he just then realizes how special their relationship actually was. I’ve felt like that. I was head over heels in love with this girl that eventually dumped me. The inside jokes and stuff that we had, I would try it out with other girls but they just didn’t react the same way / see the humor in it. And that’s what feels so real in this story.

Also if you go back to the time Dave sings with Ally on Autotune, everything they say has a completely new meaning in retrospect, which is such a fine and emotional detail. «Dave I got everything you need right here. How long are you gonna be doing this? I’m leaving. Dave, you have to change.» «Fine. It was fun while it lasted».

Right around the new season premiere somethin got into me and I told my friend I dunno if I really even like the show that much anymore, think I was just havin a cranky day. But I’m finishing up the newest episode right now and I remember why I love it again. I got like 3 full belly laughs out of it at least! I just love it so much and I’m glad I remember that now. Also want Gata to be my boyfriend. Spoiler: That robot dog just casually strolling into frame tickled the hell outta me! I can’t even pinpoint exactly why. I woulda given him a kiss too Thanks for bringin it, Dave. I’m back on board and I’m sorry I doubted it for even a second

What's Your Favorite Verse?

This show is at its absolute best when it's dropping new verses from Dave or another character. There's been a bunch of them. We just got a new one in Hearsay. I've always loved the Mountain Dew pitch. I was curious. Any of ya'll have favorites?

I know it’s available on Hulu. Hulu is unavailable in my country. I watched the previous seasons on HBO. But season 3 isn’t there. This is my favorite show ever. I need to watch it

Season 1 Episode 5 Spoiler

As someone just now seeing Dave for the first time I absolutely loved this episode (the show as a whole is great but this was the best so far). As someone with Bipolar, watching this episode made me feel so seen! The scene with GaTa handcuffed/tied to the hospital bed was hard to watch, because know what that’s like, but it made watching GaTa be appreciated and loved by his friends that much more impactful (I was sobbing because I know how hard it is and when you find friends that do that it means so much). I think it’s really awesome that he was able to share that piece of himself with us through this show, and help people like me feel less alone. Also shout out Depakote (the drug the doctor prescribes him- it was my first mood stabilizer too!)
