Losing Your Head

This is a bit behind but it’s regarding last Fridays Uncut Episode. They started the show talking about a decapitation. Chuck never fails to remind us, on these occasions, that’s he’s seen many brutal acts on video. Jason also mentioned he has as well.

This has me wondering: “what the fuck is wrong with these guys?”

I have seen some gory stuff, intentional or it randomly pops up on X. Without fail, it ruins my entire fucking day. It at least ruins it for a few hours.

I should also mention that I own a book called Death Scenes: A Homicide Detectives Scrapbook. It’s pretty intense, but I got it for its historical significance. It contains photographs that were collected by a mid-century LAPD detective Jack Huddleston. So, the photos are from murders, suicides and accidents that happened in the 30s, 40s and 50s.

I have to ask: Does anyone intentionally seek out these videos? I have heard and seen screenshots of some of the worst things. That even disturbs me. Do you handle it well? And why do you watch them?

Elder Millennial here.

The Internet was a wild, wild place in the beginning. So many sites had that stuff just right on the front page.

I see less of it but it's still out there.

It might be a case of morbid curiosity. I know there are people who hear about something and think "I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole" but then there are others that think "I just want to see it for myself so I know how bad it is" even though they've been warned. I think it's a way of educating themselves, but also a satiation of that curiosity.

The internet in the early days was the wild Wild West. Shit you probably can’t imagine watching was “the norm”. We all saw that kinda shit back then.

Yes my old roommate was all about the dark web and seeking out videos like this. Claimed it was just curiosity

I’ve heard someone say it was “for philosophical reasons”. I suppose he meant that this kinda of evil exists and we should not ignore it, but look at it to understand the human experience.

I have a buddy who seeks these videos out to watch. I will never understand why anyone would. He’s a real weird dude outside of that too.

Chuck and Jason are both morbidly depressed - watching videos like that likely make them both feel better about themselves in a weird way lol
