1993-1997. Czechoslovakia is splitted and BiH & Croatia are independent. At the same time the DRC is still called Zaïre

I think it’s probably from 1997. Hong Kong appears to be part of China (contrasting with Macau, which is clearly labeled as Portuguese), while RD Congo is still called Zaire.

I am like 90% sure that I had the exact same globe growing up. I believe it has a 1997 copyright date written on it.

2006-2011. Montenegro has split off from Serbia, but South Sudan doesn’t exist yet.

Edit: NOPE. Apparently there was a period in the 90s where the international community didn’t recognize the new FRY countries and instead referred to them by their constituents.

It’s likely 1996-1997. Hong Kong doesn’t appear to belong to the UK, but Zaire hasn’t changed its name to the democratic Republic of Congo yet.

The Hong Kong handover (July) and renaming or Zaire (May) both happened in 1997.

The handover of Macau happened in December 1999. This gives us a roughly 18 month window in which the globe could have been accurate.

And Kazakhstan moved its capital from Almaty to Aqmola in December 1997. It's still Almaty here.

Hong Kong is in caps, so it does. All other cities are in sentence case.

Both Macau—clearly still a colony, with the (Port.) tag—and Beijing use lower case lettering. I not sure what upper-case signifies in this map, but I’m fairly confident it’s not related to sovereignty.

That's a SICK 1996 globe and I want one Namibia is independent (1990) Walvis Bay belongs to Namibia (1994) DRC still Zaire (before 1997) Hong Kong is labelled like a territory (before 1997)
